Post subject: Registration Site Modifications

Gentlemen,

I have made the following minor modifications to the game registration site as I continue to try to improve it:

Added "Cadet" to ranks of first two players so Cadets can show their rank when filing Training games.

Added "VMI Training" and "West Point Training" to eliminate confusion about use of Training in the type of games.

Added "West Point, USA" and VMI, CSA" to the Army dropdown list so, again, Cadets could select the "Unit" they belong to.

Added counter at bottom of page to track traffic.

And, most importantly to me, the labeling of Player One as the CSA club member and Player two as the USA club member. This will help me when calculating points so that I know that Player one is always the CSA member and that Player 2 is always the USA member. It really doesn't matter, but it speeds my job up. I am getting an average of 50 start and end games a night and it takes me about two hours to process them all. Eventually, I hope everyone gets caught up and the pace will slow down some.

Thanks for the many compliments and the encouragement I have received. I will continue to try and make it better. I am still in the process of updating the dropdown member list so bear with me on that. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions or suggestions.

After 6 hours, I finally got completely caught up. If you have registered a game at any time on this site and you have not received a confirmation email please contact me.

I will be out of town for 3 days but will be back this weekend.

Looks excellent, and I'm sure we're all very appreciative of the time and effort you must have devoted to this. Many thanks!

Without wishing to be picky I do have one question as to usage of the system (if I'm being stupid and have missed something, don't be afraid to shout it loudly) One of the improvements you have just made, as you say, is the labelling of Player 1 as always CSA, and Player 2 as always Union. How would one go about entering a game where both players are Union officers, engaged in a Manoeuvre? From what I can see, the ability to enter an officers details "freehand" still limits you by automatic choices to the sides listed above. (I'm about to whip Dierk's *ss in scenario 2 of a Gettysburg Campaign and I want to make it as easy as possible for him to enter the next game, assuming he has enough troops left to fight with)

Mike, You made an excellent point. It is not the member side I am concerned with but the side being played. I labeled it incorrectly for what I need. If Player No. 1 is always playing the Rebel side and Player 2 the Union side, that is what I need when I am doing the points on the end game confirmation form.

I will make that correction when I return home this weekend. Don't hesitate to be picky. That is what I am trying to do to get it right. [:)]

Added: Also, I didn't mean to sound like I was whining about the 6 hours. I knew that was coming because of the 10 days the site was down. It usually does't take long to do a day or two's entries. Hopefully, we will see a lot more automation on the horizon.

Gentlemen,

Taking General Smith's excellent suggestion, I modified the Game Start section of the Game Registration site so that the first entry is the member PLAYING the CSA side and the second entry is the member PLAYING the USA side. This will cover maneuvers when players are from the same club Army side.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike!
