Post subject: | HPS Range Question |
Gentlemen, The documentation on HPS Corinth & Gettysburg (and I guess the others HPS games -- don't know) skips many ranges. The Battleground documentation used a table, with ranges. (I'm referring to the "Parameter Data" drop-down in the Help tab.) For example, in Corinth, a 32-pounder smoothbore shows the following under 'Weapon Data': 7 at 3 hexes 4 at 9 hexes It does not state the firepower at ranges of 4 to 8 hexes. I'm guessing it drops to 4 after 3 hexes (so it would be read as "firepower multiplier of 4 at a range of 4 to 9 hexes, inclusive"), but it seems confusing this way. I keep wanting to read it as "multiplier of 7 at ranges of 3 through 8 hexes, dropping to 4 at a range of 9". Which way is correct? Your humble servant, LGen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory David W. Your former interpretation is correct. It means firepower of 7 up to 3 hexes, of 4 from there to 9 hexes, inclusive. Gen. Walter, USA AoS / War College |

Battleground games step down at each range that it changes. If a gun table is 5/4 then 10/3, the gun will fire at 4 for hex ranges 5-9 then step down at 10 hex range. I believe (I say this because I checked it on Corinth a long time back and may be remembering wrong) that HPS engine interpolates. For it the above gun would fire 4 onlye at the 5 hex range. At say about 8 hex it would fire at 3.5 factor. Col. Kennon Whitehead Chatham Grays III Corps, AoM (CSA) |
