Bill,

Thanks. Right now I'm working on James Morgan's Ball's Bluff book, and I plan to post a review of that too. I hope to do a little comparing and contrasting between Morgan and Farwell. Morgan is apparently THE guy to go to for Ball's Bluff knowledge. He lives near the battlefield year-round, and is a volunteer guide at the Battlefield. I have to say after reading the first 3 chapters of his book I'm impressed. His book is the detailed tactical study full of maps that Farwell's is not. But like I said in my review, I did enjoy Farwell's book. It was well-written and it gave me a good general background. Plus it was a nice prep before moving on to Morgan.

<br />Brett - outstanding review! I have Farwell's book on Queen Victoria's Little Wars. He is a decent author. Ball's Bluff is not one of my favorite "actions" to study but it does have its part in the war. I have never read an entire book on the subject - just the articles in Civil War or Civil War Historical Times magazines.

Bill,

I had hoped to just stick to the key points, but Morgan's book is a detailed tactical study, and it looks like this review will be as long or longer than the one for Farwell. I'll probably only post the review portion and just leave the summary at my web site for interested parties.
