My partner and I are currently engaged in a fierce struggle at Gettysburg with a fine Yank officer. We are lucky enough to hold the high ground of Big Round Top. The elevation is 620 feet at hex 81,100. Yank artillery at hexes 78,104; 79,104; and 79,105 is firing away at our position. The elevation of those hexes is 470 feet. The firing modifier they suffer is -80%. This seems too low. My units are in woods, a -40% modifier, and are 5 elevation changes higher, which should account for a modifier of -20% per elevation change. As I see it, his guns should suffer a -140% modifier unless I am flanked. Am I wrong on this or is there a problem with how the game sees those elevations? Thanks for the help.

I believe the elevation modifier tops out at 2 levels (so you can only get a maximum of -40), so this combined with the -40 for the woods would give you the -80 instead of the other figure you expected.

Larry, what would a -140% modifier mean? That there's a 40% chance that your opponent's fire would bounce off your position and hit them?[:D]

Drew,
you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out for me. Taking the highest ground just makes you a bigger target with the max of 2 elevation changes! HA!
Matt, I was hoping a -140% would make me "bullet proof". There have been times when I feel 10 foot tall and bullet proof, but that's a story for another time! HA!
Seriously, I have seen modifers of -120 and such when in woods, with elevation and behind breast works. I wonder how that is applied?
