Msr. de Meré

President Lincoln was an imperfect human. He did his best to advance the cause of freedom for all men during his lifetime. Could he have done better? Yes, can't we all? Was his program seemless from the get go, or did he work within the limits of his times and his own human failings? Obviously the latter. I only hope at the end of your life, that others can say of you that you tried to better those around you as hard as President Lincoln did.

How painful it is to see fellow Austrian officers choose the side of evil in this particular war. For shame gentlemen...

Gents,
From want I was taught in school and my kids were taught in their history classes, was that the War of Northern Agression was more over States rights to govern themselves and not by big brother "Federal Government". So if you like fighting for the underdogs then join the CSA and when you win a battle or campaign it makes it a little more sweeter.

Shall we take our banks, shopping centers and Taco Bells with us as we go? [8D]

Actually,I will make a deal with you Southern gentlemen. Call off the Wal-Mart invasion of the rest of the country and we'll hand Vicksburg back to you...

Ola,

Now see what you started? Actually this will happen a couple times each year. Quite comical to say the least. Each side trying to persuade the other they were right in their part of the war.

Putting that all aside and getting back to the serious, the reasons each officer selected an army is truly one of personal values. For many of us Americans, it deals with heritage, ancestory, beliefs, etc. which we hold dear (or perhaps I speak for myself). I selected the Union because of an ancestor who fought for the Union and I grew up in Wisconsin. That is where my heart and loyalty lies. I would assume this may ring true for many players. For non-Americans, it would most likely be a matter of preference. Perhaps as was mentioned, how you like to play the game (unit strength, value quality of units, etc.) or if you like the "underdog" lable, etc.

It appears you may have had your mind set on the Confederacy from the start and just needed the nudge from the AoA to come out of the closet. That is fine. There are many fine armies on both sides needing officers. One thing you will find in this club is a bunch of like-minded, good-spirited members who like to have a good time in gaming. You can't go wrong with any decision you make. While we would like you on the Union side, I wish you the best with the Johnnies.

I would also suggest that you take part in the message boards like this and like what your army may have set up. It is a good way to learn more about the club and meet others.

Best of luck to you.
