Post subject:  Peninsula: Arty ammo shortage... for the Yanks!?

I've heard a few comments that there might actually be a lack of sufficient arty ammo for the Yanks in the first couple of campaign battles in the new Peninsula games. Can any Yanks out there confirm this? [?]

As humorous as it is after all the comlaining we Rebs have done about US possibly running out of ammo due to the broken down batteries, I still wouldn't want to see a battle turn on a lack of ammo for the side know for overwhelming numbers of supplies... especially if I wind up playing as Yanks in a maneuver and run out of shots! Hm, I'm at White Oak Swamp in a couple of games, and it looks like ammo might be a hair tight, but hardly a catastrophic problem. If I'm not careful, I may run out the last 2-3 turns, but it's no big issue.

Haven't gotten to Gaines Mill yet, so can't comment beyond.

Gents,
How do you go about seeing how much ammo is left for a unit, not so much with the infantry, but the arty. In Franklin I had a few arty units run out of shells. Nice to see the yanks run out for a change[:D]

At the start of your unit list window (in the top left hand corner if you have it on the left hand, at the bottom left hand corner if you have it at the bottom) there is what I think the game calls a status window (I don't have the games on this computer), in any case a window that gives you information on the hot spot hex, such as terrain, elevation, stacking. The last entry in this window gives you the remaining ammo for both sides (with FOW on, you see only a "?" for the bad guys--or in your case for the good guys [;)]).

As a rule, the only way an individual arty unit will run out of ammo is if it is isolated. Otherwise, as long as the main army has a single shell left, all guns are assumed to have immediate access to that shell (gotta feel sorry for the poor mule on the ammo cart).

What's more is as long as that one shell exists ALL ships can fire forever! [:D]

I will say in Gaines Mill that I have about 1/2 my Arty with targets and early on I was lobbing cannon balls at everything. With less than 8 turns (of 29) to go, I expect to have plenty, but can no longer waste shot on long distance prayers.
