Post subject:  Cabinet replacement

Fellow Members,

I am sorry to see Matt go but life has a tendency to get in the way of your favorite pastimes.

The Cabinet is currently debating on how to proceed with a replacement. The Union CoA has proposed to nominate a suitable replacement to complete the term without going through a formal election process. An agreement by the Senior Union commanders would be sought. As you know elections are a time consuming process taking a month or so to complete. As well there will be further election within the next 6 months or so.

The debate centers around going through the formal election process or
through assigning a suitable replacement.

I submit the following question to you.

Is the assigning of a replacement by the Union CoA an acceptable and practical method for this issue?

Best Regards,

General Pierre D.

As long as the senior Union commanders endorse that decision that sounds like a good plan to me.

I'll cast my vote of confidence that having the Union CoA nominate a replacement is a good course of action to fill out the remaining terms of elected Cabinet members.

I'd also like to voice my personal THANKS to those in the club who take on these additional duties. It is a great deal of work, and we're all better for your efforts.

General Knight,

Why, those over the age of 87, of course [:D] ! (Seems as if there is historical precedent to this. How old was Winfield Scott at the outbreak of the ACW [:o)] ?)

Seriously, I would think the Theater and Army commanders would be the ones considered 'senior commanders'. And I have no problems with this approach, since we're only talking about filling an unexpired term. (I expect approval of a majority of senior commanders would be enough?)

I believe that when Matt won it was a close election. If Tony Best is still interested one thought might be to offer him the post until the next regular election (in which h could stand again).

He may not have had a majority, but clearly he was favoured by many members, and it would be something of a compromise between new election and appointment. Of course he could be "confirmed" at the next election when we will be having an election anyway, thereby giving him a real mandate.

Gentlemen,

An appointee would be fine, but only until the next schedualed election was held. Then his postion should be voted on by the body with possible challengers being permitted to enter.
