I just upgraded to Norton 2005. I prefer the Norton products over MaCaffee. Norton seems to catch things that MaCaffe dosen't. I was using Norton 2002 before yesterday. Fld Lt D.H. Smith 3/1/III Corps,AotM,CSA

Major Bastiani, My first machine came with McAffee installed, so that's what I went with for several years. When I got DSL, however, my provider told me many of their customers had experienced problems getting their emails to work with McAffee. They recommended Norton, so I switched at that time. I upgrade mine every year for free when deals like this appear. If you have any Norton product CD or UPC you qualify for the upgrade rebate. For that matter, they both recognize each other for a competitive upgrade. Besides the Staple's ad, Best Buy has both on sale too http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.js ... pe=product , but it's Sytemworks Pro for $20 (includes Norton Ghost)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1091100966341&type=product&skuId=6817607&tab=6&productCategoryId=cat01143 . I'm sure your McAfee runs out in 90 days and they'll charge you an arm and leg to get a full year version. Get one now on sale. By the way, there is sometimes a conflict with Norton Auto-Protect and Creative Media Center http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/na ... ar_sch_nam I've had to reinstall the antivirus portion several times when it fails to start due to the conflict. Working OK together at the moment, but that can change any time. Only a minor irritation. Norton uses validation now too with a limit of about 3 installs. After that, you gotta call India to get another install approved. With my upgrades reinstalls I've hit that wall twice. They authorize it instantly after you give them proof of registration. I use Trend Micro which seems to be pretty good and includes spyware debugging. Switched to TM last year after it picked up some viruses that Norton missed. Col Ed Lytwak 2/2/XV/AoT/USA |
