Are you mad? [8] Do you feel the craziness content in your blood getting low?? Well then... ...I'm currently playing Big Bethel in the HACW games, and it's my first experience with company-sized units. I have to admit I like it! So... ...anyone up for a company-level Gettysburg design??? [:p] But seriously -- anyone working on such a monster??? Hmmm, lets see. There are 58 brigades in the Union army, they have at least 4 regiments in each brigade, that's over 240 regiments, and each regiment has ten companies, that's 2400 companies to move each turn...[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(] BG. Kennon Whitehead Chatham Grays III Corps, AoM (CSA) |

Not for Gettysburg, but you will see a sizeable Expansion Package out for Waterloo soon which includes many company level scenarios. New maps of the 4 main battle areas were created at that scale by myself, and Rich White did the rest of the work for the company level stuff. LGen. Sean, Glad you're enjoying Big Bethel - there are also some company level scenarios for Blackburn Ford. Gettysburg could be handled in the same way, but representing the entire battle at this scale would be massive and might cause the players' brains to explode! Suitable for multiplayer or those players with a lot of free time! However, there are a number of tiny Gettysburg scenarios that would certainly work well if redone at the company level. I'd probably use the EAW engine instead though - due to better modelling of fatigue, indirect artillery fire, points for supply wagons & supply points and - since there are no detachable skirmishers in the ACW engine - the potential of the X line formation for light infantry companies, etc. Besides, it wouldn't be possible to use the most up-to-date ACW engine due to the fixed maps & oobs. I have played Blackburn ford at the company level and it was a lot of fun. Yes, a little more work to maneuver those companies and culture shock with those cannons reaching 40+ hexes, but once you get used to the scale, it is great for small battles. Ernie Sands LtGen, CO XXIII Corps, AoO ACWGC Cabinet member |
