Why don't you stay on your side of the River ? This is a safer place anyway. [:)]

If I remember right from my brief look at the game, the units with boats have a "B" after their movement point allocation e.g. 12B, and you just move the unit onto the river hex as if it was a land hex.

I believe I mention it in the Campaign Notes file and at the beginning of each scenario that use boats. Don't forget to stack leaders with another type of unit. They cannot swim by themselves.

So "boats" (like points for supply wagons) have now been ported over from the EAW engine - great!

Also, the units must be in Column formation, not Line, to take advantage of this feature.

Rich W,

Actually it was the other way around, if I remember correctly. Corinth had units with 'boats', and that was added into FIW.

It will be in all the ACW games after the next round of patches.

With that said though, it is a "flag" that must be set inside the scenario editor, so unless each scenario is visited then it won't be able to be used everywhere...and it shouldn't be, as the armies didn't always have boats with them...

Hank,

When I opend up the scenario editor for Corinth and pulled down the
COMAND menu there exists a HAS BOATS item on the list. The version of the editor is 1.04, so I don't know if it came with the CD or was patched up to that level. I thought it was on the CD.

Looking at the UPDATE for Corinth on the HPS site, and there is no mention of it being added later.

Corinth came out before FIW. Rich H and I asked JT for some kind of water bourne troop carrying device for FIW. JT put in the 'HAS BOATS' feature for us, which works quite well. I fairly sure it came from Corinth.

Al,
I agree with all you said....I just had never been able to get the feature to function in Corinth....I thought I had read somewhere that it did not, after I had tried to get it to do so??? Regards, Hank

"boats" pre-existed Shiloh, but it did not function until Shiloh.

NOTE:

Changes for Campaign Shiloh 1.0
- Union mortar boats are introduced
- Confederate gunboats are introduced
- Gunboat stacking is limited to two per hex.
- <b>Toggle boats now works.</b> Leaders must be stacked with boat unit.
- Added gunboat artillery loses to count for victory points.
- Added the ability to create 2 hour night turns. (.pdt file)
- Leaders, supply wagons, and limbered arty will not prevent a
defending unit from retreating after a lost melee.
- Supply wagons will have the option of counting toward victory points.
- Defending units will now fire at 100% as a result of melee.
- A/I Artillery will only fire at valid targets.
