Post subject:  Loading Talonsoft Games

Gentlemen,

Since I set up my new machine, the only Talonsoft game I've loaded has been Chickamauga. Now I want to load BG Gettysburg. I remember reading something recently that very succintly stated what to do, in what sequence, and where to go to get the necessary downloads, but I can't find such a post now.

Can someone help me? Once this information is located, maybe it can be posted in a permanent location -- either on the (very excellent!) Link Express page or in the "ACWGC Club and Game FAQ" site. (It may be posted permanently somewhere already, but I haven't been able to find it.)

Col. Smith,

Thanks. Remember in the movie "Gettysburg" when the sergeant was talking to Col. Chamberlain and complaining that the officers in charge "couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions written on the heel"? He was talking about ME [V]!

I messed up following Ernie's instructions, but he seems to know what he's doing. I'll contact him for assistance.

Gentlemen,

I described what I had done, step by step, and -- as anticipated -- General Sands saw right away where I went wrong. One little tweak and everything's right now.

Tonight I set up the Tex-Mex scenarios so I'll be ready for the "Earn Yer Spurs" tournament Col. Carroll is organizing for the AoG. (One of the fringe benefits of being CoA is that you often get invited to participate in little shindigs like this!)

I've been assigned to the Mexican side. "¡Pobre México! Tan lejos de Dios, y tan cerca de los Estados Unidos." (Translation for you Gringos: "Poor Mexico! So far from God, and so close to the United States." This was from Porfirio Diaz, a later President of Mexico, lamenting on the brutality of the United States. I also found it interesting that, while the U.S. calls this conflict "The Mexican War", it has several names in Mexico -- one of which is "The War of Northern Aggression"!)

Lt.Nardi,

BGC was a 23 bit game when released, the only patches I'm aware of was one to get it to work on Gateway PC's and the BGC.exe that was posted to get rid of the need for the original game disk to run the game. You still need to have a CD with BGC.exe on it but originally you had to have an original game disk because it read a code on the disk itself.

Al:

Check here http://www.hc-llc.net/games/patches.html for the GATEWAY patch and the XP patch for BGC. It can't hurt to apply the GATEWAY patch and then the XP patch to the game, in that order.

If you upgrade any other BG series game, you can get the PATCH from the above link AND get the 32 bit upgrades link from the same page.
