Impressive, but expensive... I could only imagine a museum paying a significant amount of money for this - perhaps the NPS would consider it at a lower price for the Gburg visitors center, etc.

Just to put some perspective on this. The recent Antietam Miniatures event covered in another post had 3,000 painted 27mm metal figures and 3 tables I judge to be 6' x12' of very detailed terrain. So without taking anything away from the Gettsyburg Mueseum display that implies the Antietam setup was aound a $150K game.

By the way, miniature figure counting is not a precise science. I would count a "limber" as a figure, but if you buy one it's more like 4 figures - the limber, the driver, and two horses. Flag bearers can be 1 0r 2 as well.

Gentlemen,

I expect to place a substantial bid on this in a short while.

I heard a news story on the radio this morning saying that GM had lost $1 billion last year. Since they didn't say anyone had reported finding $1 billion laying around, it must still be out there somewhere. I figure GM would be willing to offer some sort of reward for its return. If not, maybe I'll send them an email and say "I've found your missing $1 billion. If you can identify it, its yours. Otherwise, I'm keeping it."

Now all I have to do is find it. Shouldn't be too hard, though. A billion dollars can't hide just anywhere, you know.

I've already offered to take my co-workers out to lunch -- anywhere in the world -- when I find it. I've told them to start thinking about where they want to go. I expect there will still be plenty left over to place a nice bid on this diorama, and on a building to store it in.

I am putting my bid in on Saturday.

Then, I'll get rid of my dining room set.

Bill,

Don't get rid of your pet rock -- make it your own addition to the diorama by making your pet rock a part of Devil's Den [:D] !

General Hamilton,

Thanks. Sure makes me wish I read German [:(] !

I notice (on the fourth picture) what appear to be clouds of smoke (from cannon blasts?). Does anyone know how they did this? (My guess is they used cotton balls, pulled apart, but there may be a much better way.)
