This weekend I got the opportunity to see firsthand the Shaw Mememorial, commemorating the 54th Massachusetts, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. A beautiful sculpture indeed. I highly recommend viewing this piece of art to all members.

It sits across the street from the State House in Boston, in the Common. I'm not sure which is the original, or if the original was moved to Washington. I've seen it many times, though.

I believe the one by the Boston state house is a replica. I saw that one when I was 6 so I am too young to really remember it. The photograph in the link you sent is significantly smaller than the the bust exhibited at the National Gallery.

Yes, the one in Boston Common could very well be a reproduction, but it is huge. I searched Shaw Memorial looking for a photo that showed someone beside it...needless to say there was none.
