Lt. Healy,

Thank you for the notice. General Carroll tracked down several members of the club by telephone after Hurricane Katrina hit, just to make sure they were okay. I think he was also instrumental in putting together a 'care package' for one of our members who was in the wake of the hurricane.

I was one of those he telephoned. I remember I was taking a break from ACWGC stuff and was playing a Nintendo game at the time, so my mind was off somewhere totally different. When I answered the phone and heard someone speaking with a thick Irish brogue asking if I was involved with the American Civil War Gaming Club, my first thought was this was some salesman -- until it sunk in what he had asked. I replied, "Yes", and he introduced himself and said why he was calling. (He may have actually introduced himself first, but who listens to salesmen [:D] ?)

I was absolutely thrilled (yes, it doesn't take much to excite me sometimes!), but it was especially nice that he was going to all the effort to track us down and make the international telephone calls to check on us.

In fact, I remember he gave me his phone number in case I ever needed to contact him. I just checked and it isn't in my email address book. Now I've got to find out what I did with the silly thing!

Anyway, bartender, in case General Carroll returns before I find his number, let him have a drink on my tab. Of course, if he's looking shaky at all make sure it's something relatively mild [:)]!

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory

Gentlemen of the ACWGC!

Rumours of my recent Demise have been greatly exaggerated! Gawd Bless Mark Twain! [:p]

On December 1st, I arose from my Desk at work and pitched off-kilter to the Left. I ascribed this little episode of light-headedness to my enthusiasm for the task at hand and that I had risen from a seated position at too rapid a rate of Knots. I continued at my work thru' the morning, but became increasingly concerned that my steerage had taken a liking to the Left and that it was over a week since I had imbibed anything of an alcoholic nature. Ipso facto - I was NOT DRUNK - yet I was veering to the west at every second step. Sitting posed no problems whatsoever - so I declared myself as ill to my Boss and proceeded hence to the Apothecary. He prodded. He poked. He pinched. He pushed and he pulled and declared that there was a small likelihood that I had just passed thru' a Minor Stroke. [:0]

My stomach cleaved to the roof of my brainpan and my Bowels threatening to drain into my boots, I beat a hasty tattoo to my local Workhouse for the Ill and Infirm. Over the following 2 days I was scanned, X-rayed, irradiated, micro-scoped and donated approximately 14 Gallons of blood to the furtherance of the career of indigent Histologists. The Result was then declared - that I had forsaken the dubious experience of a mini-stroke and in fact (no doubt, due to the workings of some weird Irish breed of Vampire), I had NO Potassium in my blood. My brain reacted to this state of affairs, as an Alcoholic would to the absence of aftershave in their life and it become an addict of Gravity - thus pulling my straight-line walking over to the Left side of the Road. [:p]

Whilst awaiting this Result, a vein in my Left arm took pity on a family of Streptococcus's and gave them shelter. These Heathenish organisms - instead of following the Strictures of the Good Lord, to "Go Forth and Multiply" - They stayed put and multiplied in the crook of my elbow. So happy indeed, were They in their Promised Land, that They "a Pleasuredome, did decree"! [:(!]

To cut it short Men - a whopping great Abscess grew there - about the size of a Plover's egg and similarly hued. This state of Affairs could not be allowed to continue and upon my Application, the Saw-blades conducted a Deportation of my now Unwelcome Guests. A Week of antibiotics has ensued and all appears to be well again. [B)]

I am returning slowly (I have a hole, closely resembling a Musket wound, in my arm!)to duty, in the Struggle 'twixt Blue 'n' Grey and would hope to be back to speed within the next week or so . . . . I have a lotta catching up to do! [:D]

I'll close for now by stating that it's good to be back . . . I missed You Guys! Awwwwww . . . Shucks! [:I]

I sincerely and genuinely wish to Thank Y'all for Your Well Wishing and Your Kind comments during my Illness. I was touched and am extremely grateful that I stumbled across the ACWGC and it's Inmates just over 2 years ago . . . . the Colour, Enjoyment and Friendship I have <s>endured</s> . . ahem! . . experienced as a Result has truly enriched my sorry li'll Life! [8D]

My Thanks to Y'all. [:D]

(Now . . . please excuse Me whilst I go to a quiet corner and havva li'll manly Blub!) [:o)]

Cheers again Chaps!

Pat.
