I am sure many of you are familiar with this Christmas Carol. We get the lovely words of the song, which omitted the second half of the poem. What I discovered today opened my eyes about what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was really writing about when he penned this poem back during the Civil War. Check out the full poem here: http://www.potw.org/archive/potw118.html Gen. Don Adams 5th Texas "Lone Star" Cavalry Brigade I/III ANV Cabinet Member http://www.rootsandsaddles.com/index.htm "Verily I say unto you, as things which cannot be shaken shall stand, so shall things that are of the spirit - the soul of the Confederate soldier and the Rebel yell - fail to be captured or killed but shall live forever in the hearts of men and never die." -- Rudolph Mellard |

Not a Southern song, for sure. Longfellow was a true, blue Yankee. Born in Maine and died in Massachusetts. http://www.pdmusic.org/civilwar2.html and http://www.pdmusic.org/civilwar.html <b><font color="gold">Ernie Sands LtGen, Commanding, Army of Ohio ACWGC Cabinet member </b></font id="gold"> |
