A steely eyed soldier in blue strides into the room, chomping on the bit end of a days old cigar.

"I'm looking for the Top Reb, a General Mallory. You let him know my army is camped outside Iuka, and I'll give 'em 3 points to my 5 if he can beat me there."

Turning to leave, he calls out over his shoulder, "You boys in Butternut and in Blue would do well to toss back your drinks and take up your arms. The Union Army is on the move and won't be beat in this tourney."

A young lieutenant in gray scurries over to the dimly-lit corner where the General affectionatly known to his men as 'Dee Dubya' is intently looking over a map. The lieutenant whispers something in the General's ear, pointing in the direction of the cigar-waving General in blue.

'Dee Dubya' glances at the lieutenant, smiles, and nods his head.

"I heard him, son," 'Dee Dubya' replies. "I'll take his challenge. Here, you take this note to General Laub's tent and kindly inform him I will meet him shortly on the field at Iuka. Oh, and please deliver a copy of the note to General Nelms for his records."

The lieutenant salutes smartly, turns on his heel, and strides out of the room after the retreating General in blue.

'Dee Dubya' turns to the staff officers gathered around his table. "Gentlemen, I have accepted the gauntlet and intend to put some points on the board in the Rebel column. I encourage you to hunt down some of the ranking officers from the other side and join me in this fracas."
