Post subject:  Disk drive or graphics driver problems?
Gentlemen,

I have been experiencing some unusual problems over the last couple of months. It started when I would push the button on the disk drive to change disks and the drawer would open then close right away. Now I have it opening all on its own and closing again. Sometimes there is a disk in it and it pops out and spins in the tray (ouch!! pour disk). Very recently (twice now) I have had my computer crash and indicate that the rout cause was the Nadiva Graphics problem. I up dated my microsoft software and have not had any more crashes (yet). But the disk drive still pops open occasionally. Are these two problems related, one and the same or coinsidence? Thanks.

You didn't mention the age of the computer/components.

But, the two items should be unrelated. For practical purposes, the Nvidia card has no effect on the operation of the CDROM or vice versa.

You should check with the manufacturer of the video card for updated drivers. You might need to run a video test program (a good FREE one is at PCPITSTOP.com)

As for the CDROM, that is more troubling and I don't have the time right now to get into that part. I will get back here, with more info, later tonight.

Right now, I have more work to do getting my new HD to work right. <sigh>

There seems to be two possibilities. The remote possibility is a computer virus of the trojan variety that allows a hacker control of your PC.

The most likely is a mechanical problem that makes it simpler to replace the drive than mess with it.

New drives are relatively inexpensive and they all are very easy to remove and install.

Sir,
you could have Spyware or other mischief making software on your coputer. Get a good Anti-virus, I like Norton or McAffe, make sure it is updated, and run a full system scan. Also, download a free Spyware checker program. I like Ad-Aware. Run a full system scan. These actions will protect your hard drive and the data on it.
