Post subject:  Vicksburg and the Army of the Mississippi

Esteemed Gentlemen of the South. Two days ago I walked into the tavern of the Army of the Mississippi (http://pub27.bravenet.com/forum/show.ph ... 2235163242) and inquired politely whether anyone would feel inclined to oppose the advance of my forces down the Big River. I thought it would a nice twist if the opposing side in the struggle for the Gibraltar of the West* were led by a true Mississipian. But alas!, and no offence against the fine officers in this Rebel army, they are probably all out fighting Yanks, it appears that the tavern of the AotM is a rather quiet place. At least nobody felt inclined, so far, to take up the gauntlet. So I hereby extend my offer to all officers in grey, regardless of army affiliation. If any veteran of the Rebel cause feels like giving this old soldier some good fight, please refer to my challenge in the AotM tavern.

* Apparantely this nickname was at various times applied, among others, to Cairo, IL, Columbus, KY, Vicksburg, MS, and also the West Indian island of St. Kitts. Naturally, I am referring to Vicksburg here. [;)]
