General Vannada <salute>

Suh, my compliments! The lack of Yankee replies is not surprising. We practically had to storm the White House to get any rise out of the Yankee forces for our "Gator Challenge". Thank goodness for the Army of the Shenandoah, as there doesn't appear to be fighting men anywhere else in the Yankee army.

My regards,

Sirs!

My apologies for diverting this topic slightly.

I do not own any HPS games.....but am very interested in them. They appear to be more involved and offer a better, more advanced, game engine than the Talonsoft games that I own. (For you Rebs future records, I own all of the Talsonsoft games).

I thought this would be a good place to inquire about which games may be better than others within the HPS game selection.

I personally am a big fan of the Vicksburg campaign and the Atlanta campaign. But are they too big and unwieldy to start with? How long do most scenarios last in these games? Or would you recommend the seminal Gettysburg as a starter?

Are the HPS games so much better that I would never want to go back to the Talonsoft games?

In game play, the HPS games are very similar to the way you play the BG series. The ribbon bar is about the same, but there are more, generally, optional rules in the HPS games, which cater to most members needs. You will find that the "learning curve" for the new games is very minimal, as regarding the interface. One of the BIGGEST changes is the addition of Automatic Defensive Fire that allows for ONE game file exchange per turn, however there is an OPTION to play in PHASES, like the BG series.

All of the games have scenarios that go from 6 turns to 100+ turns. So there is plenty of variety in the length.

If you like Vicksburg and Atlanta, I would suggest the Atlanta for a start. Probably the MOST popular game of the series is Gettysburg and it has literally over 1000 scenarios available, but either game, Atlanta or Gettysburg is a very good starting point.

General Vannada:

Please name your own poison. I have no game preference and your choice of OPTIONS will be fine.

I would suggest:
GB
Atlanta
Ozark
Corinth
