Gentlemen <salute>

There was a problem at the official weigh-in and it seems there will be an adjustment in the composition of the teams, however the battle is scheduled to move forward.

More to follow,

Gentlemen {salute}:

My compliments to you all.

I'm sorry I have been occupied with personal problems of the ex-wife variety  - the 2nd one, the one I like  - but I degress. The Dixieland Blues will make one lineup change and that would be to add me in place of the Blakester.

A downgrade I know, but I have been assured my participation is welcome - at least by my own team  I'm sure that's what they meant by "uh, okay". :?:

Anyway the Dixieland Blues look forward to fighting like tigers while we see the elephant doing battle with the gators in the River of Death.

Regards,

Deano

Suh, my compliments! Welcome to the battle, this is as good as it will get for your side. The Yankee team, with the exception of you, is comprised of deserters from the Confederate Army. There's a special place in our hearts for them.

You, on the other hand, are a native of Louisianna, the home state of Nicodemus and myself. We may have to search you out for special treatment.

Highest regards,

Highest regards,

Gentlemen <salute>

It's time to rumble, or better yet the rumbling has begun!

Having progressed through the first 3 of 85 rounds the Dixieland Blues' strategy seems to have revealed itself: rid themselves of their pesky cavalry knowing they are no match for General Forrest's troopers.

Action started in earnest (you could say) as a Yankee force advanced toward Hall Ford while the gallant Confederate artillery reduced their numbers by some 27 infantry. Then came the Gators.

L Troop of the 1st Ohio cavalry, having previously been engaged, decided to remain within range of our advancing forces. They won't be withdrawing any farther, as the remainder of their troop was destroyed near the intersection of the Alexander's Bridge and Brotherton Roads. Another 57 Yankee widows.

The unattached 15th Pennsylvania cavalry, meanwhile, advanced down a trail just northwest of the Viniard. I guess their reconnaissance mission never intended to attract attention, however tally up another 69 Yankee widows.

Our Darwin award, however, goes to the troopers just southwest of Hall Ford. They bravely sat there in their saddles in the face of our infantry and artillery, offering up another 30 Yankee widows.

I submit the following dispatch from General Bragg to General Rosecrans:

"Are you aware that a Catoosa County ordinance prohibits leaving dead horses lingering for more than 24 hours? The bloated horse flesh does smell something awful in a short time and you sir appear to have heavy work at hand with the ample amount of carcasses your army is now accruing, not to mention all those dead troopers...."

I anticipate things heating up a bit, however for the moment I report the following casualties:

Yanks: 28 infantry, 156 cavalry
Confederates: 2 infantry

Be careful where you step, gentlemen. Something will jump up and grab you!

Highest regards,

We lost two of our brave lads? How terrible! :(

Suh, my compliments!

While the loss of even one of our brave lads is terrible, I believe we'd be more than happy to continue the kill ratio.

Gentlemen <salute>

"Dixieland Gator" has ended in a Confederate major victory after 15 turns. It was a bloody affair considering the number of turns played with a total of 11,063 casualties, roughly 3,500 of which inflicted on the final turn. Our opponent's plan was sound and would have proved challenging had a large part of Longstreet's Corps not released early due to a unit advancing a bit too close to the lines.

We offer our appreciation to the excellent officers of the Dixieland Blues and look forward to future engagements.
