Hi all,
I'm on the move and I'm able to surround and isolate an enemy unit that is disrupted and within command range of it's leader. So, will a unit that just became isolated get the benefit of being within command range on it's next turn when checking on recovery from disruption?

I am not sure if isolation negates command range modifiers. It is logical to ASS-UME_ it does negate command bonuses, but you know how that is.

There are a couple of points from the manuals:

"If the defending units have a Leader with them, then 10% is added to the
defending strength.

Routed and Isolated units have their defending strength divided by 4.
However, units that are both Routed and Isolated have a defending
strength of 0."

OK thanks Ernie. I guess I'll have to try to play test this situation one of these days. Oh, and just to clarify, your couple of points both refer to defending in melee.

In my situation I'd be using horse arty coming up from the rear and deploying to complete the isolation. What I fear is that if the isolated unit recovers from disruption it could about face and melee with my horse arty. The isolated unit defends at 1/4 strength but it is allowed to initiate melee at full strength. Go and figure.

I would bet that command and control is established strictly by distance in number of hexes with no other parameters, as additional parameters would require additional programming. There would be all kinds of 'what if' situations to be programmed around if John Tiller got into that. However, I'm also assuming and don't have the least idea what is actually in the programming.

There always is a 1 in 6 chance that any disrupted unit will reform so don't assume it won't. I suspect, but haven't confirmed, that if that unit has its brigade leader within the isolated area and in range it will give its bonus to the check. I don't think the command check allows leadership check to pass through enemy zones not negated by a friendly unit.
