Gentlemen, my new PC with Windows 8 is wonderful, except with my HPS games. For example one of my Gettysburg game works just fine, but another (MP) shows a blank troop screen after the password. Have any of you experienced this issue and and there any thoughts about how to correct this problem? Retirement is great but this is a puzzle.

General Danner, it's good to see you gearing up for your return to the field! But I am amazed that you selected a mount from the Windows 8 Stables! I've received a number of complaints from various officers attempting to get settled with these beasts. The horses seem to have plenty of alacrity out of the gate, but then cough and sputter while trotting along those well-worn turnpikes and trails.

At first I thought the problems might have been the work of Rebel spies and agents. But then we received similar intelligence from south of the Mason-Dixon Line that the newer horses that had made their way into CSA service were exhibiting contrarious behaviors as well! I have inspectors looking into these animals in an attempt to find out why this is happening, but they are being obstructed in their work by the contractor, located in the Seattle. All of our official inquiries and complaints to them there have been met with the same old saw we've heard before that the horses are way too cultured for the unseemly business we put them through! If that is really the case, then this war will eventually grind on down to a unsatisfactory halt as the old reliable mounts of both Northern and Southern officer alike finally give out completely. (Should that happen, I, for one, will retire from the service and organize the Geezer's Grand Society of the ACWGC, wherein we shall gather once a year for a memorial dinner at a site to be named and fondly recollect our battlefield exploits, displaying the remnants of our once vibrant and responsive mounts to our unbelieving offspring. By that time they should have been forced into riding something like Windows 25!)

But, I still maintain some faith in the remarkable resiliency of this club, whose members always seem to find a way to overcome the obvious failings of the great, transformative and progressive society in which we live and provide us with the simple solutions.

ERNIE, KENNON, MARK et al! COME QUICK! GENERAL DANNER MUST BE RETURNED TO THE FIELD AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE! WE WILL LOSE THIS WAR WITHOUT HIM!

We have spoken, but I have no experience with WIN8 and my win7 experience did not help.

So, Dave is going to ALL the experts.

General Danner, I order you to go to HPS Simulations and speak directly with their techincal gurus. You are also ordered to report back here with the results of that inquiry.

I run my HPS games on my Win 8 PC just fine. I also had the same problem when I installed the games on my Win 7 Laptop and my Win 8 PC. So what I did after some consultation was not to install the games under the Progam Files or Program Files (x86) which is the default for auto install, instead I created a folder for each game on the hard drive (C) and installed them there. I then patched them up. Do not copy any old pbem files over from your old machine. Get a new file sent by your oponent. Plus Win 7 and 8 have some sort of weird permissons thing which does not like files being over written - like game files, so you will need to ensure that you are set up as the Admin. If I think of anything else I will add it here

There, you see? A lot of worried commotion over nothing! I've always said that these types of things are simply blips along the way, nothing to become upset about.

General McOmish, no one now thinks to invite you directly to any drink fest, as you are usually the first one there anyway! :P

Ok Cam, I'll buy you some of the good stuff. I've got Ned Simms watching the bottle.

Ok see you there, although having young Ned watch a bottle of booze is like having a stoat guarding an egg farm
