"Pickett's Charge" by Mort Künstler

Honors for General Nick Kunz

Officers of the Confederate States of America (CSA) Armies & Fellow Club Members,

I am immensely pleased to gather everyone, again, here today to celebrate the man who probably is the actual cornerstone of the Confederate States of America (CSA) Armies. General Nick Kunz was known years ago, quite commonly as Mister CSA and no other term so easily encapsulates his service to the CSA at large. If he isn't a Confederate household name, he should be. No single CSA officer I can think of, in my soon to be 12 years of membership here, has consistently had that "volunteer spirit" to help the CSA for so many years.

A lot of Nick's work has been behind the scenes & not directly public/Club wide facing. Obviously he has served as the first person someone meets when they join the CSA, in his longtime role as Commandant of the Vicksburg Military Institute (VMI). But he has served in a lesser known role as Chief of the Engineering Department, in designing & managing over half of the CSA's websites for so many years. In doing so he did the often involved task of keeping Officer Dossiers up to date, which is a time consuming task and he did so when the CSA was really flush with members for years. He also managed the CSA Headquarters pages, the CSA Reference Library & it's extensive pages and also the VMI sites too. Further over the years he handled the monthly CSA Sharpshooter contest, the Quarterly CSA HQ Honor Guard (something I hope to restore with him soon). He even further help manage & work the Commandant's Cup between VMI & the UMA years back and works with the still ongoing Lieutenant's Cup between new graduates of each side's academies.

In more examples of his volunteer spirit, he served as an Interim Chief of the Armies (CoA) during one of the crisis periods of successive CoA's and he helped stabilize things. He also did the same in the Eastern Theater Commander spot when the long serving General Johann Huels disappeared. He has also served as a key member of multiple CoA's Command Staffs & most notably with that of now retired General Willie Tisdale. All of these duties were performed while still serving very faithfully in the now former Army of Georgia (AoG).

Nick also found time to help participate & manage in multiple Tournaments over the years.

The CSA would not be the same today without Nick's involvement for so many years at so many levels. He has truly set a culture & tone to the CSA that is instilled in an officers early days when they arrive at VMI. As so boldly posted at the door of VMI for all officers, new & old to see, the motto of VMI attributed to General John Dragan from June 2007 "It's better to win a friend than it is to win a battle".

I think we can all safely say that Nick has been a friend to so many and in doing so has won the devotion & respect of many and the unshakable confidence of so many a CoA and top leader in the Club. Nick is the best example of a Club member who goes the extra mile!

He truly is Mister CSA!

I gives me true pride, to award Nick the following for his incredible service. Nick has not received any honors for almost three years now and he deserves each & every medal given him today and then some!

Nick is also the CSA officer with the second most highest number points in the books!

Thank you Nick from ALL of us!

Three Cheers for Mister CSA!

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

In Nick's Honor I have once again asked Fightin' General Tim Miller to have the ol' 2nd South Carolina String Band play us a tune. I has asked them to play The Bonnie Blue Flag in Nick's Honor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5xdgYLuFCk

The buffet of food & more importantly drinks is open! :P

I can honestly say if not for Nick Kunz the current state of the CSA would be in shambles.

His commitment to the club has been unique among any other member I have known and the key has been his unselfishness, a trait of a true gentlemen.

Congrats on the Awards Nick!

<SALUTE>

General,

Working and playing along side of you in the ACWGC Army of Georgia stands out as one of the best gaming experiences I have ever been lucky enough to enjoy (up to and including a Diplomacy zine played by snail-mail in the 1970s). Your Honors are well deserved. I salute your Colors with the warmest regard, Sir!

Extremely well-earned! Once again we are witnessing the bedrock of the CSA in honor ceremonies, and Nick's place is high on the list.

Congratulations, General Kunz!
