Gentlemen:

On behalf of our esteemed president, Bob Weir, I am pleased to announce that General Joseph Meyer is hereby awarded the Legion of Merit. His citation reads as follows:

"General Joseph Meyer has performed outstandingly in the position of Union Army General-in-Chief over two terms (four years). He has reorganized and tweaked the Union Army standing orders, developed a advisory council for the Union Army, and maintained a high level of mustering and keeping detailed records of such. While performing these duties he assumed command and reorganized the Armies of Tennessee and Potomac, while overseeing similar changes in the Army of the Shenandoah.

In addition, General Meyer has contributed to the American Civil War Game Club through his involvement in the Cabinet. General Meyer's steady hand has helped to steer a course through some rocky club political waters over the past few years, while making numerous changes to the award system and increasing and improving the scenario listings of four entire game modules.

General Meyer has demonstrated his loyalty and dedication over and above most members of the club and the Legion of Merit is but a small token to recognize his service to the American Civil War Game Club."

Good Lord! I must have been crazy to have accomplished so much of what General Riggs has stated I've done! He and the rest of the ACWGC Cabinet members must have been binge drinking again to have made this award to me, one of those instances in which they had little else to do.

But if I am to be a recipient of such an award, then it needs to be stated that anything that I may have been able to do was avidly and solidly made possible by a pretty devoted group of club officers who took the time to guide me on my way and held my arms as we teetered along. I cannot begin to acknowledge how important and immediate their advice and consultations were and have been, nor how responsive they made themselves whenever I called for their assistance. And there have been so many of them that I hesitate to name them lest I unforgivingly leave one out! Many of them wear the blue, and some wear the gray...all were and are excellent examples of what this club is all about.

Above all else I've considered it a distinct privilege to have been able to serve this club, a club composed of so many diverse personalities who've come together in their enjoyment of a common pasttime. I salute all of you!

Gen. Meyer,

Congrats, a well deserved award.

You've come a long way from the 1st Lieutenant who contacted me about his Kennesaw Mountain Ribbon.

General Meyer,

Joe, Congratulations on receiving the Legion of Merit Award, you certainly have made a significant contribution to the Union command as well the entire club.
I had the honor to serve with you on the Cabinet as both a CSA Secretary and as President and I can honestly say you never took a stand or presented a proposal that did not have the ACWGC's well being first and foremost in your intent. Your commitment to the club and it's members is indeed Meritorious!
