Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees.
Last words (May 10, 1863); as quoted in "Stonewall Jackson's Last Days" by Joe D. Haines, Jr

I am very sad to report the death of one of our officers. He will be greatly missed by us all.
Lt Gen Beacco has written a moving tribute which I share:

Beloved,
It is with great pain that I feel obliged to inform you that our playmate and my dear friend Paul Pizzingrilli, Brig. Gen. 5th Brigade, 2nd Division, passed away after complications following cardiac arrest.
Paul was 44 years old and leaves his wife and the sixteen year old daughter.
For those of you who knew him just by phone or by mail, knows what he held to the 3rd Corps and to the Club and what he was always available to help the new Italian members, making it in fact, the linker of the 3rd Corps and in fact, my right arm, as well as being a terrific player and a true gentleman, with a great sense of honor.
It 'was for me a great honor and a great privilege to know him even for a short time and for me that I knew him personally and I attended is a terrible loss that leaves me stunned.
May he rest in peace and find opponents worthy of him wherever he is now.

Carissimi,

(Salute!)

We expect to lose officers as they advance into their older years, but we never expect the loss of ones in the prime of their lives. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Paolo upon our fields of battle, but in reading the words of Lt. Gen. Beacco I cannot help but feel that I've been robbed.

I feel that one of my greatest successes was limiting BG Pizzingrilli to a minor victory. He will be missed.

I never had the pleasure of meeting the gentleman but it appears our club and the hobby have lost a good man.

I am very sorry to read of the loss of such a fine & valuable officer. I had often wondered who was bringing all these great Italian members to the Club & helped them out. I wish I had known, as I would have awarded him something. But I will posthumously (post life) do so....he deserves it.

Sad to read he was so young too. Reminds me of when another well known/liked Italian member of many Clubs passed away years ago. Armando Russo, some might recall him. He was a great member too and one I worked closely with.

My sympathy goes out to Paul's family.

I've updated our Memorial Page to include his name.

Though this mean little since Paolo is gone, I felt he deserved something for his service to new recruits. I regret I didn't know prior.

But Rest in Peace Paolo and Thank You!
