Just wonder why the trouble was taken to do weather and none weather versions.

Wow - your scenario name matches the file name! BRAVO!

Thanks, Rich - this is really helpful when trying to find a scenario.

Because some folks do NOT like to play with the weather effects. Its a courtesy that some of the Scenario Designers give to the customer.

Christian, the club is composed of a wide variety of gamers and psuedo-gamers of all ages and backgrounds, some of whom, like Bill says, consider the weather variants to be too much additional information, while many others can't get enough realism injected! Then again there are those of us who own some games but rarely play them, being content to just fire one of them up, once and a while, pick a scenario and ride around just looking at the terrain. They "don't need no stink'in weather!"

As others said, it give players more options and variety. I kinda wish that the 3D graphics could match the weather. For example, show some semblance of rain if it's raining. Maybe I can't get Berto to have a look. Perhaps one day!

Rich,

It was mentioned before that maybe a setting in the weather line could switch between the standard map files and the alternate map files. That would be a good case like Shiloh where it starts out with standard map features and witches to the rainy/muddy alternate map files when the weather changes from clear to rainy.

I think there should be three folders in the alternate map folder for: rainy, snowy and Fall map files.

That would allow the map conditions to change during a battle based on the weather. Just like Gettysburg, the scenario covers three days. If there is rain the map images would change to match the weather.

Here is some examples from the weather file in the Antietam .pdt file:
1 1861 7 18 9 0 100 6 135 90 -10 0 Heavy mist
1 1861 7 18 10 0 58 8 135 90 -10 0 Light mist
1 1861 7 18 11 40 12 23 100 95 -10 0 Clearing/ Light Smoke

The marked/colored/underlined "0" I believe could be used to change this setting between the standard map files and the alternate map files. Maybe Berto could look into that?

That's an interesting thought

Napoleonic series has "Normal, Snow and Frozen" conditions - there is a Snow folder in the Map folder for the additional graphics.

I would love for BOTH series to get a "MUD" condition. The Murfreesboro battle in BGG Chickamauga was done in mud colors if I remember correctly.

Autumn colors would be nice too for those battles fought in the Fall.

Am sure that a "Mud" terrain color set could be added.

Snow - lakes are NOT frozen over.
Frozen - lakes ARE frozen over.

Neither of those usually apply to the ACW games but MUD would.

Guess we should run this by Berto. ;o)

I agree Bill. Would like to see the Fall/Mud terrain from Chickamauga used as one of the alternate maps weather options.

I really thing this would help improve the map graphics portion of the game. Maybe allow the 3d map to load from each alternate folder (Fall, Winter or rainy/muddy) as well?

I think the logic could be 0=Default, 1=Rainy/Muddy, 2=Fall & 3=Winter. The folder could match the number in the alternate ALT folder in the main MAP folder.

That would be my suggestion.

The variableness provided by the weather rules in this series adds a lot to my gaming experience. Until battlefield smoke finally gets introduced, I feel that adding some smoke/haze effect during the game makes it a bit more realistic than constant 70 hex visibility range. Imagine playing a Chantilly or Shiloh scenario without weather.
