Ernie,
Have you played much of this title yet? I purchesd this not long after it came out, but have not yet played it, not even against the AI. It just seems such a slog. I own over half of the PzC titles, but have such a hard time getting psyched for the "slower" games like N '44 or Kursk. This one seems much worse.

That said, maybe I'll break it out over the holiday weekend just to see. I saw another post you had about Scheldt? How is it. That campaign is probably the one WW II campaign that I know the least about.

Any comments appreciated... thanks!

Scheldt is usually many units, scattered around for both sides, but plays similar to other PZ campaign games.

Japan 45 and 46 are mostly amphibious scenarios, for the allies, against entrenched axis. Usually, if already on the beach, you have ship support. Similar to Normandy and Battles of Normandy amphibious games.

Thanks

I may have to look at Scheldt. I know a little about the post-Market-Garden fighting in the estuary, but not a lot. It's usually been wargaming which has gotten me interested in wars and battles of which I've read little about.

I've played through the US campaign of N'44. I think that's when I developed my preference for the more open games. Maybe I'd enjoy them more as the defender

I have PB's Kursk and Normandy; I just haven't been able to get into those like PzC. I still play the Campaign Series for platoon level. That game has been the one wargame that has stayed on every computer I've owned since EF/WF came out and is still my favorite all-time game.

Haven't looked at Scheldt yet and don't have Japan'46.
I bought Japan'45 and have played a couple of the short scenarios vs the AI and was able to get victories in those.
Also tried the campaign game against the AI, or at least 160 of the 195 turns.
I quit then as it appeared I would not manage a victory, having a draw and needing 3400 VP for a victory.
With only 1400 VP in objectives left and having caused over 170,000 casualties I didn't think there were enough Japs left to allow me to get a victory.

In the other games you can get an enemy unit in a bunker isolated and D'd. Leave a retreat path and assault and they retreat out of the bunker.
The Japanese don't retreat from bunkers even when D'd so you have to continue to assault, this results in heavy casualties and loss of time.
Granted it was my first time playing the scenario but normally I have little trouble beating the AI so yes these games are a slog and against a real opponent I think it will be nearly impossible to win the campaign with the US forces.

FYI... this is the post I was referring to in my BBCode ? in the MD Tavern

Standard practice for experienced players in scenarios with fortifications.

I read through the rules for J '46 and one of the first things I picked up on was the Fanatical Nations rule. This is probably why I have yet to play the game and may just write it off as a bad choice for me.

Where's the nuclear option?

I've yet to play PzC by email. I've played a few other games at The Blitz, but several of the people I played were over the top. I'm just not a big fan of ladder games. It's not that I'm not competitive (just ask my wife  ), but I game to relax. If Tiller games had even a decent AI, I would be perfectly content to play the AI all the time. It's mainly because my work schedule is so screwball that it's hard to commit to a regular return rate - I often don't know day-to-day what my schedule will be.

Anyhow, I've gotten way off topic; Thanks for the replies!

Working on your BBcode situation.

Sporadic return rates are a "nature of the beast" with PBEM; sometimes real life interferes.

When you start a PBEM game, you and your opponent agree on a play schedule; be it once per week, 4 times per week, OR something like " Ill try to play one turn per week, but could be more sporadic. I will be sure to keep you updated."
