Gentlemen,

I have recently played a campaign on the Franklin CD and learned that the victory tree was switched. So my opponent scored a major victory and I received the campaign victory. The Question arises: "Do the options and victory hexes change depending on who won the last battle?" At Nashville, I had selected a flanking attack, but the computer informed me since the rebels were down we were to make a direct frontal assult. I had suffered a major defeat in the previous battle, why should I make a frontal assult to crush a strong enemy? Are there plans to put out a patch to fix this problem.

While your at it, please reset the Artillery casualty numbers to those of the Campaign Gettysburg game. It is sucicial to assult artillery on a hill with infintry infront of it. 60 men killed from a single battery at a two hex range. Because of the excessive killing power of the artillery the battle mechanics change... You just do not leave your troops exposed to the artillery.

I will probably not play this campaign again until these things have been addressed. Any one from HPS there?

Sir,

You both MUST be using the same patch. The Current patch is v.1.04. This version fixes the campaign tree and also adjusts the arty, especially the 3" rifles.

Rich

BTW, if you download the latest patch and still think the arty is too strong, just cut a paste the original pdt file from the CD, or cut and paste the weapons from the Gettyburg CD. Just make sure you only cut a paste the weapons (a-z) if you use the Gettysburg CD.

Rich,

I have version 1.04 on my CD. My opponent was Jon Cuneo, I do not know what version he had. I had assumed hed had it updated to Club standards.

When you find out what version he has, let me know as I'm curious.

As for the arty, the different versions may be the difference, but keep in mind that Gettysburg uses sectionalized arty and Franklin uses full battery units, so there will be a greater difference in loses.

Arty should be a fearful weapon, and so I've tried to design them that way. During Hood's many charges at Franklin, many poor rebel soldiers were mowed down by the canister shot of the Union defenders. A bloody day to be sure.

Dear Rich,

I just talked with Jon, he said he had version 1.03. I may have also had 1.03, but now have 1.04. (when did the 1.04 version come out?) We finished our game on the 6th of May this year. Has the 1.04 version fix our problem? I thought it was to fix the caverly movement in woods problem. As far as teh artillery is concerned I like the Gettuysburg and old Corinth table the best, the new Corinth is too weak and the Franklin is too strong. Are there plans to standardise all the games with the same table?

I've replied to Joe's email. I'm say again here. I purchased my copy of Franklin not long before playing Joe. I had played only once previously, against Dierk. One of the things we noticed was that cavalry was not disrupted by movement in woods. It was actually Dierk that had commented on the point as we exchanged moves.

Now, when I purchase any software, I also get any and all upgrades and patches that may be available. I also save them. The patch I had saved in a utility folder before receiving Joe's mail tonight was 1.03. It's always possible I hadn't run the patch before using the game, but I believe I did. In any case, I downloaded and ran 1.04 tonight. When checking the version now, it says 1.04. The interesting point is that when reading the text file that's listed with the patch, it refers to 1.04 as correcting the cavalry/woods disruption issue.

When Joe and I completed our game and the results showed a Union campaign victory, I asked how this was so when registering the end game. Don Adams had pointed me at a post by Dierk that addressed that issue specifically. He also showed the victory tree, and illustrated how the campaign results were directly opposite the scenario results.

I've just read the txt file again. The fixes included witn 1.04 do nothing concerning the artillery fire. However, if you continue to read into 1.02, you'll see that they've adjusted the PDT to cause greater cannister casualties. That must be what Joe and I experienced. It's apparent that Franklin has this adjustment, and the other games may not.

Franklin's 1.04 patch was put up on 2/18/05. All the other patches are
much earlier.

Dear Rich,

So if I read that file correctly, the switched victory cnditions have not been corrected as of version 1.04. Correct? Will this effect the battle options such as ordering a frontal assult instead of a flanking manuever?

If your refering the the campaign tree, then yes, it was fixed in v.1.02. Simply use the campaign editor to check.

Rich,

I do not know how to use the Camaign editor to view the victroy tree. However, since both my self and Jon had version 1.03 or higher, then it appears the problem was not fixed in version 1.02. The battle was around Nashville. I believe someone else checked out the tree and told us that they were switched. It would appear the problem still exists.

Well, just do. It's pretty obvious when you look at it and click through the options.

"CWCAMP.EXE"

For me, the patch fixed the problem. A defeat is now a defeat and a victory a victory.

Dear Gen. Walter,

You were the one who informed me the tree was switched. I went back and checked the old post and saw some of the later decission, I must have mist. The CD prior to version 1.02 had the tree switched. I checked my version 1.04 and it is fine. With your help I managed to find and read my victory tree. My Disk is ok. I do not know why we had the problem, or when Jon upgraded to version 1.03. I will have to try another campaign. Thank you.
