As you can see from Doug's post today is the anniversary of Pickett's Charge and the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg which was a resounding victory. Today also marks another Union victory with the anniversary of the surrender of Vicksburg. Effectively this date marked the last great chance for the Confederacy.

Hurrah! For the Union,
Hurrah!, boys Hurrah!,
Down with the traitor,
Up with the star!,
So we'll rally 'round the flag, boys,
Rally 'round the flag,
Shouting the battle cry of Freedom!

This brief period of 1-4 July in 1863, with the repulse of the Rebs at Gettysburg and the surrender of Vicksburg, was to the Union what the Battle of Midway was to the US in the Pacific in WWII. For these victories we are eternally greatful.

Gentlemen, I have removed all the posts that I considered inflammatory starting with the first. If you want to have an arguement then please take it to the Smoking Room but keep it civil. If you want to post in the spirit that the original post was made and in a manner befitting officers of both armies then please do so.

Ho Mark!

Point taken and understood.

I would like to say that I intended no offence to Man, Boy or Beast [;)]. . . but recognise that p'raps The Smoking Room would have been a better venue.

My apologies to all.

I will attempt to make my views a li'll clearer in the 'baccie fog! [:D]

Thank You Gents.

Pat.

This is a great day for the United States. On this day the Union that we love today survived it's greatest trial. Though 2 more bloody years would follow, this day would be fire that tuned the iron of America into the steel that would be neded 150 years later.

Though we play as North and South, we must remember the sacrifice of those brave men in Yankee blue and Confedrate grey and for the beliefs that each believed in. For it was through their blood, sweat and tears that confirmed the freedom that we enjoy today. And the spirit of those men is still found in their greatgrandsons and daughters in Iraq and Afghanistan and in other far off lands.

God bless and protect the United States of America!

Mark,
I also have no problem with the removal of said inflamatory posts. I do not apologize for what I said though, I felt my post was extremely restrained.....I would appreciate it if I could have an explanation of the removal of the fight the war thread though....I would consider it a favor if you could let me know.....Regards, Hank

Gentlemen,

My apologies if I have offended anyone. I have made my apologies directly to Col Carroll and would encourage at least one other officer in blue to do the same.

The date remains a momentous one in American history. From here onward the result is known - only the bill in blood need be determined.

Mornin' Gents! [:)]

"The Good, The Bad . . . . and the Ugly Truth."

The Topic I raised here has been raised in the more fitting venue of the Smoking Room. I have seen the Light and agree that the topic belongs there rather than my inept bumbling around at a Union Party! [:p]

Those of Yuh that contributed to the removed Post - I would invite over for a looksee and would appreciate anyone's view on my subject matter - over there. [:)]

I fully realise, that it is a contentious issue and that My personal take on it is a li'll off the Beaten track. Thus I expect a certain degree of opposition. I do not expect, nor do I hope for, . . . either the causing of Offence or to be in receipt of Offence. [;)]

That things have gotten heated before now . . . I regret and ask that anyone that wishes to contribute to the Post on the Smoking Board, to do so . . . but in a Friendly & courteous manner . . respecting the views of Others and recognising that what is expressed in any ACWGC post is a person's opinion.

If i don't like yours . . I'll say so . . . BUT . . . I'll fight Tooth and Nail to ensure You have a Forum to express it on. [}:)]

That all said . . . hope Y'all had a good 4th and now that the Festivities are over for another Year . . . . .

Back to the REAL War! [:D] [8D]

Pat.

P.S. Chuck, I received Your mail and replied . . I hope Ye got it? Whether Ye did or not . . . I'll be in contact again soon. There is NO need for any apologies . . . I shoulda Ducked as soon as I posted the original! [xx(] [:I] [:o)] [:D] [8D]
