Hello All, and apologies to my opponents.

For some strange reason I can no longer send or receive Zip files.

I have taken the following steps to help locate what the problem could be.

Disabled all virus software
Disabled all setting for virus check in Thunderbird Mail

- I tried sending myself a simple email and I was able to send and receive.

- I then sent an email with a .zip attachment and although it appeared to 'go out' it was not received. Although I use "Thunderbird" as my mail server I tried the same thing with "Outlook Express" and the result was the same.

- So the problem does not appear to be in "Thunderbird" nor "Outlook Express".

- I noted something else both mail servers could NOT DO but I don't know if they are related. I cannot send a .jpg or picture file IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL MESSAGE itself. I CAN send a .jpg as an attachment but not a zip file

-Got rid of WinZIP and got a newer version - same thing happens.

For now it looks like I can send the .cpf and .bte files but not zipped ones. What could possible be the problem? Makes no sense.

A couple of points:

What is your operating system, probably WinXP?

There is possibility a setting in your email program that is not letting you send ZIP files.

Check your preferences/options in your email program.

I have done that Ernie. In fact I have been experimenting with this the whole day.

Installed - de-installed numerous programs. Got rid of my virus program and got another one, ran Spybot everything.

The only pattern I see is no zip files can be sent. My .cpf files are OK and .bte but not zip. Crazy.

When you send an email with a zip file attachment do you get a rejection notice with attachments from one of the email servers?

Most of the time this problem is due to spam and virus blockers on the IP mail servers and routers. A sure sign of this is cpf files passing but not jpeg's or zip files. Most of these "protection" programs don't recognize cpf as a problem attachment. Most of the time that I have had it happen it has been due to IP routers flagging an address block my provider or the recipient's is in as a spam source. This usually gets cleared up after a week or two. Otherwise you have to complain to your IP email provider or get a yahoo address to use for a while until things go back to normal.

What Kennon says is exactly right.

If you want, I have plenty of GMAIL accounts that are fine for file exchanges.

Let me know if you want one.

I had alot of problems sending zips after I did a fresh install last year. I was sending emails via word with Rich text. Once I changed it to HTML or Plain Text the files made it through.

At my office we can't get .zip files either. The workaround is to change the extension to .zi_ or similar. The recipient can change it back to zip and uncompress it normally. May help until you get it figured out.
