Instructions on how to operate all of your games from one disk is provided by General Walter, Army of the Shenandoah:

1. Make a "full" install of each of the games.

2. For each game, create a folder on your HD that has exactly the same name as the main game folder on the game CD, so for instance "BGS" or "Campaign Corinth".

3. Copy the main game executable ("BGS.EXE, "CPO.EXE") from each game CD into the folder for that game.

4. Burn all the folders to one CD. (Permanently keeping these folders with the executable files in one place on your HD will enable you to just add new ones when you purchase new games and burn the entire set to a new disk.)

That is one way. I find that this is a better way:

Make a NEW folder called (something like) HPS_Game_disk.
COPY EVERY HPS and TALONSOFT game folder to this new folder.
In each game, delete ALL subfolders.
In the main game folder delete ALL files except the .EXE files.

BURN ONLY THE COPIED game folders onto the CDROM. (DO NOT COPY THE new folder HPS_GAME_DISK)

Copy any new games the same way and simply REFRESH your GAME DISK CD. There is usually no need to make a complete new disk when you add a new game to your collection.

This should work for BOTH HPS and TALONSOFT games.

Both work the same way. First copying all the games, then deleting 99.5% of the files, just takes longer. [;)]

Just a thought, but providing an iso image of game files may cross into gray territory of copy protection issues. You may want to get an opinion from HPS before you do such a thing and post it for download.

By the way, the instructions are linked at the bottom of the Link Express page for future reference.

Notso,

If you can setup so I can be easily downloaded and then burnt, I will gladly guinea pig it.

I have been wanting to do it for awhile.

Obviously, as new games come out, just add new files.

Question, for Editors, do they check disk? Or do they work without actually looking to if CD in drive?

By the way, currently in Fayettenam (Fayetteville, NC).

Manassas was great!

Sorry guys, but that would violate the copyright agreement. You may not distrubute the exe's in any way shape or form, only HPS may do that.

The instructions provided in this thread are ample to allow the owners of those games to create their own master disk as needed.

Rich,

I guess it would be different for everyone anyways as I do not install exactly where HPS or TS wanted the default.

And, just so you are clear, we are not trying to distribute it, just trying to make it easier for everyone to play.

I think Notso and I could put up some really good instructions for the less computer inspired, as our main purpose is to help make things easier for everyone.

Cheers,

What could be simpler than copying folders, deleting files and burning a CD?

AND, it doesn't make a bit of difference WHERE you install the games, the games just check your CD DRIVE for the EXE files.

So, come up with better instructions, but don't start something that causes HPS to change their copy-protection on new games.

We may not be able to distribute the the .exe files, but why not make a download with folders of all the games and a set of instructions thus

Copy all the folders to the master and put the .exe files of each game you own into the relevent folders.

That way it will support all the games and not violate copyright.

I wish everyone would quit being so paranoid.

I will run it by Rich once I get it done myself.

I don't see any harm of setting up the directories and instructions.

The players themselves can load what .exe files they have and burn there own CD's.

Like anything, why do we keep reinventing the wheel. Those that know should help make the club better and the more we make it better, the more people come to the club.

Most find Admin, design and making the clubs better a waste of their time, I do not, but would like to help those who have no time or to save them time.

The Automated Records is a perfect example of how we have improved the club for the better of all, which helps HPS also.

Thanks for everyones input.

Cheers,

Yes, that sounds perfectly acceptible...the key is them populating it with the exe's from the games they actually own. [8D]
