Gentlemen,

Please join me in congratulating Lt.Gen. Mike Dean on receiving his third star. Gen Dean provided outstanding service as commander of the 1/VIII for several years and after a brief hiatus recently returned to the command ranks taking over the XIX Corps allowing me to recommend him for his third star which the cabinet recently approved. Congratulations Mike.

Gen. Ken Miller

Thanks Ken. It has been a while since I web-searched "Chickamauga" and found Battleground 9. My first wargame was the paper version of Chick, from Strategy and Tactics magazine. That was around 1980, and I continued collecting SPI's paper games, including Terrible Swift Sword, the grand-daddy of the games we play today. I never finished a large battle back then due to cats, etc., so I figured the computer version would be even more fun. Thanks to my fellow officers in the ACWGC who have shared this hobby with me, it's better than just fun. Barkeep, a round for the house on me!

Maj. Gen. M.G. Dean XIX, AoS

I remember all those Great Battles of the American Civil War games of which TSS was the first. Still have most of them.

Back in the early '80's a group of us played one double blind (EFOW) with myself as the referee. We had two copies of the game (it was Pleasant Hill from the Red River campaign) set up on a ping pong table in my basement with a screen between the two and I kept track of what was visible for both maps during movement.

That was novel for the time. No morale, BCE levels or leaders where known. It was amazing how cautious everyone became.
