I read this and had to rush off to investigate the situation myself. I must disagree with the original statement that the Reb Artillery is exposed or vulnerable. I set about this scenario playing both sides to see what can be achieved.
True enough, Schimmelfennigs Brigade of 3 Regiments can advance and overrun 4 single Gun sections on turn #1 gaining 120 vp's. However, the available Rebel Infantry can descend on the Union units on the following turn and the roles become reversed. I could not manage to eliminate the Union Regiments but it does appear possible.
Has a Union player ever followed this course of action on turn one? I certainly wouldn't attempt such an aggressive move, though I guess some might.
Conceivably, the Union player could throw available support from Kearny's Division into the fray, but then the Rebs could bring up nearby help too...and the situation can develop any number of ways.
With the Artillery capture/re-capture rule the undertaking seems even less attractive, as the gained points are quickly lost.
I'm not sure I'd want to trade the Infantry casualties for 4 Reb Guns, would anyone?

Discretion is another part of valor. I just started 2BR as the Union and am falling back awaiting arrival of support(Kennon has beaten me enough times). The only issue is the Union's arrival hexes are split and the Rebs have an exit hex in the south that must be covered.[:D]
Also the Blue Bellies start with a minor defeat so once reinforcments arrive, they must go on the advance.[:)]
