Gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to present to you Lt. Bob Hovey, newly graduated from West Point.

The first round is on me. A toast: May you enjoy the friendly competition, the intellectual stimulation, the lessons learned and taught, the battles be they won or lost; may you gain a greater appreciation of the American Civil War and the pivotal role it played and still plays in American life and culture; and most importantly, to the many new friends and colleagues that you will meet. Gentlemen, I say ye, Lt. Bob Hovey!

I have been trained by one of the best. Now I have to step onto the battlefield alone and see if I can put that training to good use.

Is this a challenge? Looking at your impressive war history I should run for the hills....call it bravery or stupidity, but I welcome the opportunity to meet you on the battlefield.

Just remember I am new and it would be awfully humiliating to lose to a rookie.

"Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable and most sacred right - a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can may revolutionize and make their own of so many of the territory as they inhabit."

Field Lt. Hovey Sir:

Is preferable to lose the war that to gain it without honor.
For example, Sherman, Turchaninov or " Red legs of Kansas" they were vulgar criminals of war.[:(!].
I have all the games of TS or HPS, but I prefer some battle or campaign in that I have not fought. Maybe some battle in which I have been defeated also.[:(].
I prefer big battles or campaigns.[:p]

I have Anthietam, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Vicksburg. I am willing to play anything, I have only played my Rebel Uncle in this game, besides training.

I will leave it up to you to pick a battle that you have not played if you so choose.

Let me know if you would like to play, I welcome the challenge.
