Hey just a quick drop in to hope none of our Aussie club members were affected by the wild fires going down there. I read 108 deaths! Take care mates. Our prayers are with you.

Gentlemen, there is a poem that about sums up some of Aus.

http://users.chariot.net.au/~kday/australiansongs.html (or copy into your browser). The site also includes Waltzing Matilda (and an American-English explanation of the words).

I live a few hundreds of kms South of Victoria, with a rather large lot of water between. I have a few friends & relations tied up in what's happening (most of my friends are OK, if a bit singed or not involved at present, & my relations are in Albury - near NSW border - so should also be OK).

It is not good news and some of the fires are still burning. It is pretty certain that the number of dead will climb a fair way above 200.

As a politician said today: "If you have a God, please pray for Victoria." Personally, they need it!

There seems to be suspicion that the fires are being deliberately set as the death toll passes 170.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="3" face="book antiqua" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".

The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine.

The posting - which instructs jihadis to remember "forest jihad" in summer months - says fires cause economic damage and pollution, tie up security agencies and can take months to extinguish so that "this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time".

Alternative explanation: Why, it's due to global warming! [;)] Or is it climate change these days?...[?]

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2009/ ... er-science Bushfires and global warming: is there a link? Scientists have a hunch rising temperatures due to human activity are making fire and flood more likely

T'were'nt just US channels that got that.

There are a lot of others who seem to want to blame things on "some body".

Pity that "somebody" represents their own
