Lt. Col. Gandt has posted a whopping 887; the number to beat so far. His score was racked up as the Union Player, although Col. Gandt himself has the honor of serving with ANV.

I am curious as to why the tournament organizers chose to design the contests to encourage mutual destruction of both armies. This takes no skills really -- just an agreement between both players to throw everything they have at each other until the game ends. Then both players advance to the next round because they killed the most (despite having been killed themselves).

I think a casualty point differential would have made for a better tournament. Just my opinion...

For fun and variety. Some tournaments involve much longer battles (interminable even) with emphasis on strategic movement. Here we have a series of short actions with more emphasis on tactics. With luck we'll complete 50 battles in the year, make many new introductions, and see some pretty interesting results.

Thank you for participating.

Gentlemen, <salute>

I just finished my second battle. Although General Jones' assesment is valid that the tournament rules encourage aggressive play, both of the games I played saw rather catious play at the start of the battles. When I played the Confederates my Union opponent, General Killeen, even seemed to want to avoid the fight. I had to be rather aggressive to finally bring him battle.
Colonel Ellis, thank you very much for organising this tournament, I am enjoying it a great deal!

Gentlemen <salute>

BG Paul Brennan reports that games ten and twelve are under way. I thought I could sneak that fixed scenerio by Roger but he was up to the task :)

Col Ellis Sir,

I guess I had a misunderstanding of the scoring that I would like for you to clarify. This tournament scoring is NOT a differential casualty score? You earn points only for killing the enemy forces regardless of how many men you lose? If this is true then it is possible for a player to lose all 4 battles by points to his opponents and still advance to the final 4? Please reply to these comments so that I can adjust my strategy accordingly. Thanks.
