After 100 plus years, the first full length analysis of Ezra Carman’s 1,800 page history of the Maryland Campaign will be released. Published by my friends at Savas Beatie, LLC, it will inevitably become the most authoritative work on the campaign. Edited by Thomas G. Clemens, it will be released in two volumes. I have just started to review the galley of the first volume, “The Maryland Campaign of 1862: Vol. 1: South Mountain.â€

It sounds damn fine, but I do not think it will improve my chances at Sharpsburg. I wounder if free shipping extends to Australia[?]

Priest's books on South Mountain and Antietam were excellent, but some folks have questioned his accuracy. Carman's books sound great, but the prices are too high for me to handle right now. Plus, I have about fifty ACW books I haven't even read yet.

Chances are with the shipping rate that they do charge to Oz it would still be much cheaper than the off chance finding it in any store here. (However that pretty much holds true for most things you can get shipped to Oz by Amazon) -in my experience.

The book was published a long time ago.

In 1904, the War Department published Carman’s 14 plate Atlas of the Battlefield of Antietam; regimental level maps which editor Pierro notes form the basis of all subsequent understandings of the tactical evolutions of the battle. The History is the end – but never before published – result of Carman’s massive research conducted over at least 40 years.

The Pierro single volume book runs for a price of $95 at Amazon. However, the post at This Mighty Scourge refers to the version of Carman's book edited by Tom Clemens, which will be released in 2 volumes. Volume 1 will be around $25 at Amazon, a much more reasonable price. Here's the link:
