John Wayne weekend on AMC and I'm watching The Horse Soldiers tonight. Nothing like the Duke showing the Rebs how a real cavalry raid is done! [:D]

That's what happens when you past 60! Letters, loves and trees all get mixed up with horses and you pour yourself another beer!

Okeh, gang. Step back. Time to brag . . .

I once exchanged greetings with Mr Wayne, and we shook hands in a very manly manner. He was every bit as big and effusive in person, as he is onscreen.

The only thing that could make it better is if AMC was also showing the Green Berets! Alas, but they did that on Memorial Day and my wife has since erased it from the DVR.

I agree, all the Rebel cavalry were riding well fed, non swaybacked mounts and had regular uniforms on that were clean and all the same. Definitely nothing realistic about that.

General McBride

You were most fortunate to meet the Duke in person - did you get a photo? Most of Hollywood is a rum lot these days and I have little or no desire to meet any of them - but if John Wayne were still with us I would jump at the chance to shake his hand.[:)]

Back in the early seventies, when Ronald Reagan was elected for a second term as governor of California, I was dating a girl whose mother was in state education politics, and passed on to us an invitation to the innaguration and entertainment after. Such stars as Frank Sinatra, James Stewart, Jack Benny, Dean Martin, and John Wayne each did a few minutes onstage. With security relatively open in those days, I found a place outside the stagedoor to stand and get pictures, etc. When John Wayne arrived, he had on a stunning tuxedo and to save time handed out pre-autographed cards he'd prepared. I waited, then when it came to me I said "If you don't mind, I'd rather have a handshake." He looked at me, gave a big grin, said "I read you loud and clear" and stuck out his hand. After the handshake he said "Glad to meet you, son" and left for the stagedoor. End of official story . . . Anyway, I got a picture, but I wasn't in it with him.

Well, of course the Yanks prevailed in the movie because they were armed with 47-70 1873 Springfield carbines, the cheatin' dawgs!! [:p]
