ATTENTION! PLAY HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL JULY 15. ALSO, ANOTHER RESULT HAS BEEN POSTED (SEE BELOW). V/R COL EAGLE

Gentlemen,

Here is the quarterfinal bracket:

1. Maj Gen Oakford vs Gen Martin - HPS Gettysburg "Encounter Along S. Mtn." 15 Turns
2. Col Eagle vs Maj Gen Kurkimilis - BBG02h "Out of the Mist" 35 Turns
3. Col Peluso vs Lt Col Bassotti - HPS Franklin "Fight Like Hell" 13 Turns
4. Lt Col Gavin vs Brig Gen Staccioli - BGN17 "Whirlwind of Death" 14 Turns
5. Brig Gen Merideth vs Lt Col Moore - BGG5a "Double EnvelopMent" 16 Turns
6. Col Corbin vs Maj Gen Jenson - HPS Gettysburg "Scenario 1.1" 44 Turns
7. Maj Gen Goodwin vs Maj Gen Moser - HPS Gettysburg "Probing Westward V.13" 27 Turns
8. Lt Col Lastowicka vs Maj Gen Melbro - HPS Ozark "Prairie Grove" 25 Turns

Results:

* Maj Gen Oakford defeats General Martin - both had Minor Victories but Gen Oakford earned 158 more victory points.
* Brig Gen Merideth defeats Lt Col Moore - Lt Col Moore concedes.
* Lt Col Gavin defeats Brig Gen Staccioli - He earned Major Victories in both mirror matches.
* Maj Gen Goodwin defeats Maj Gen Moser - He earned Major Victories
in both mirror matches.

Current Score (13 points available):

AOJ: 7 points
II Corps, ANV: 2 points

Here are the guidelines:

First nothing here is written in stone. I am open to advice and
suggestions if a majority of you would prefer to do some things
differently.

Second, each pair of opponents are to contact each other and agree to
fight a mirror-match battle of their choosing. I would prefer that
it be no more than around 25-30 turns but I won't be giving anyone
grief as long as the turn length doesn't exceed that ball park figure
by too much. Options will be up to the combatants but both must be
in complete agreement as to how their battle is fought. Any varient
of a BG or HPS scenario is fair game, including those "blind" or
other custom scenarios if you prefer - it really doesn't matter since
it is a mirror-match. It is assumed that all ACWGC rules will apply
unless an agreement among the combatants exists to the contrary.
Finally please don't forget to register your scenario with the club
to earn your points - I won't be doing that.

Third, as in Round One, only the "First side" counts for victory
considerations. In case of a tie in victory category, victory points
will be the tie breaker.

Fourth, I want to set an absolute quarterfinal completion date of no
latter than May 15 (no exceptions here - I've learned my lesson).
Any battles not completed by that date will be ruled upon by Brig Gen
Cross and myself and we'll try and be as fair as possible. That comes
out to about a turn every other day for a 25 turn mirror-match which I
think is reasonable

Fifth, the team score stands at 3-2 in favor of the AOJ. These
quarterfinal matches account for the 8 remaining team points to
decide which army is victorious. The semifinals and finals are to
crown the tournament champion only and will not count towards the
team competition.

Sixth, as to the spoils (aside from bragging rights), I had gained
initial approval on the Union side awhile back for a tournament
ribbon to be awarded for all participants who at least honorably
completed round one. I will go through Brig Gen Cross to gain
approval on the Rebel side. The losing team earns the ribbon while
the winning team earns the same ribbon along with the 'V'
attachment. Also it was agreed by both sides that the tournament
champion should earn a medal and some club points. Again I will work
with Brig Gen Cross to get this approved by both sides but I don't
expect that there should be any problems.

Please contact your opponent and one of you please reply back to me
when your field of battle is determined (passing along the name of
the scenario and turn length).

Best of luck to you all Gentlemen!

V/R

Gents,

I will certainly check into the ribbon and points for the CSA side but like Col. Eagle said I do not think it will be a problem.

Good luck to you all.

Gentlemen,

It is with great pleasure that I am first on the board to announce the first "victory" in round 2. Gen Rick Martin and I had agreed on Campaign Gettysberg-63 "Encounters along Sth Mtn" as our mirror match. It is only a 15 turn game but is particularly complicated with units spread over three geographical areas and the Union being (slightly) outnumbered by Confederate cavalry. The higher victory points value of the cavalry seems to greatly offset the numerical advantage the Confederates.

The games ended with both of us enjoying a Union Minor Victory, but with my victory rated slightly the higher as I had scored 1423 points to Gen Martin's 1265. Those mathematicians among you will appreciate that 158 points is not a large number of cavalrymen and the games were truely close. The variation could be attributed to luck (dice throws) with the casualties and I would agree with that assessment.

Here's to a gallant opponent! Thankyou, sir, for an enjoyable match.

Major General Mark Oakford
1/XVIII, AoJ

Congratulations to Brig Gen Merideth and Lt Col Gavin on their victories. The AOJ needs only one more match victory to win. I must say though that it won't be coming from me as Maj Gen Kurkimilis has me pretty well beat.

Congratulations to Maj Gen Goodwin on his victory. The AOJ has now
earned seven points and will win the team portion of the tournament.
The remaining four matches are currently being played for pride and a spot in the semifinals.

Very Respectfully

Col Eagle
