I'd like to throw a nugget of further useless info out there. But lets see if anybody knows the answer first.

Who is the only former CSA General to have an outdoor monument in Washington DC?

Albert Pike, for his works with the Masons even though he was a confederate general

I found another interesting tidbit of info.

Ever wonder why you never see the 1st Illinois on the battlefields?

Illinois did not use the 1st through 6th regiment designations out of respect for the 1st - 6th Illinois who served in the Mexican War. I never knew that until today. That's one mystery checked off of my list :D

Something else new...

CSA Brig. Gen. Hugh Mercer (look for him in the Campaigns around Atlanta) was the grandfather of Johnny Mercer. Ring a bell? It should if you know your Sintara. He wrote such classics as "One for my Baby," "Moon River," "That Old Black Magic," "Summer Wind" ect. ect.

One stray bullet may have denied us such musical gems

Famous Siamese Twins and Fathers of Confederate Soldiers... At least some of the many immigrants to America fought on the "right" side during the Civil War

This is said to have occurred during the Battle of Murfreesburough:

"Cheatham launched another attack with the brigades of Vaughan, Coltart, and Manigault with Maney in support. Vaughan encountered Bushrod Johnson's Brigade in a line of battle perpendicular to his own. He changed front and attacked the Federals that were in the woods on his right. The enemy fled across the Wilkinson Pike and on to the Nashville Pike. Vaughan again changed front and advanced across the Wilkinson Pike with a view of cutting the enemy off. There he came upon Wood's Brigade and engaged a Federal force trying to flank Wood on his right. He drove them into the only field left before the Nashville Pike.

Leonidas Polk was standing with Cheatham during one of the attacks and Cheatham was cheering his men on, yelling "Give em hell! Give em hell!" The former Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana joined in with "Give em what General Cheatham says, boys! Give em what General Cheatham says!"
