For the longest time, after my first HPS Civil War wargame purchase, I boycotted the series because of the locked oobs.

The game engine changes, with optional rules caused me to dive in, but I still miss editing oobs.

Is there any chance that some time in the not too distant future, oobs will become editable and the "Weapon.dat" file will become accessible?

The new "Overland Campaign" game isn't locked. You can edit the OOB file.

Also there is no "Weapon.dat" file in HPS. All the weapon factors are in the pdt file which has always been editable.

"Weapon.dat" is a file used to name weapons in each of the HPS Nappy titles. With a one size fits all file naming weapons for all games, the ACW series doesn't allow me to do something like name Rebel arty types, with poorer mid and long range fire ability than their northern counterparts...

I know what you're talking about (I was just looking for the weapons.dat file). There isn't one -- the names are hardcoded in the executable.

But I hadn't checked -- is the OOB for Overland really not locked?

As a test I copied the Gettysburg Map and OOB over to the Overland folder and was able to create a scenario that would run using them. I am pretty sure this means that the OOB and Map can be edited. The Map is a bit more difficult since you have to edit its checksum to make it useable. Using an existing map isn't hard since all you have to do is subtract the original game's modifier and add the new game's modifier.

Now if I could just remember where I saw Ransom's division's OOB. I know one of the games had it and I would like to add his division to Gettysburg since it was the one Lee requested and was denied by Davis. One of Davis's many mistakes. Think what would have happened with that large division to strength the second day attack.

Gen. Whitehead,

There were several BGG mods that included Ransom's Division and I added Ransom's Division to the ANV OOB for the Hooker's Gamble HPS Corinth 1.01 MP Game I ran some years ago. That may be where you remember seeing it. Been a long time but I believe I got the strengths and Class values from the other mods but I 'm not sure.
