And I would agree with General Sims: highly recommended unless your work is your life.

I'm three years out and would walk out tomorrow if I could figure out the medical insurance. I was born in 1950 - the year that requires you to work to age 66 instead of 65. I have a plan, though. I have done leatherwork all my life so I am quietly building a business on the side. Well see what develops.

That is the KEY. I retired at 62 because I had my military retirement medical AND I had hit my goal of $$$$ in 401k's and other investments. The company I worked for had NO retirement or medical plan for retirees, but had a great 401k. I retired in 2004, but in TODAY'S economy, I might have had to wait until I hit full retirement age.

I still work and contemplate the eventual day when I retire.

FYI........I am of retirement age.

Greetings,

I recently retired as of 29 December 2012....hopefully, tomorrow I will actually enjoy a lazy day....we'll see.

I retired in 1999 at the ripe old age of 48 and went off to hike the Appalachian Trail. Since then, have hiked the other two major national scenic trails, as well as shorter ones. Things got a little tight when the economy cratered, but SSN rode to the rescue last year. But I was willing to do that only because I am the only person I am responsible for.

I took early retirement in 2003 from Texaco after some 32 years. Chevron's take over gave me a way out with pay. Currently writing my own CW game. Maybe someday I will finish it. :D

I would do it tomorrow if I could afford it but I just got the kids through college and now I have to save big time for the next 9-10 years. I would like to watch the grass grow by the time I'm 63.

I retired Jan. 2012. I planned to work until I was 70 (2018) but a accident on the job forced me out of construction. I am presently fighting the insurance co. for a settlement. I love retirement but my wife still has to work and is jealous. I may have to find work just to keep the peace.
