General Strickler has been giving us a wonderful description and analysis a of a particular game he observed. As he is an amateur, however, we have called in a recent graduate in history at a major liberal arts university to do a trained and informative description of another game.

I was sent by my adviser to go and watch this stuff at this dudes house and when I got there these dudes were all standing around this big map and I know it is a map cause one of the dudes said it was a map anyways on this map these dudes were pushing these little red and blue bars around with little arrows in front of them and a first I am like 'cool!' but then it all seems stupid and lame and nothing happens and I figure out there are red dudes pushing red bars and blue dudes pushing blue bars and I ask the red dudes if they are socialists like the dudes in some country a long time ago but they aren't and one of the blue dudes says they are the 'Blue Man Group' but I know he is not cause he has hair and I am going bonkers when three of the blue bars all run into each other and stop and one blue dude tells the other he was to be first and the other blue dude says he didn't know so I ask the first dude 'Bro whats up with that?' and he gets this attitude so I let him have his attitude and I drop some text on my best bro who cares about that stupid adviser and my bro and I talk about this foxy chick at the next table at dinner and we LOL and decide she is butch anyways and I look back at the map and now it is smaller for some reason and blue bars and red bars are near each other and these little lines keep going back and forth and the dudes are really getting off on that they should get a life and suddenly some blue bars make this really big blue arrow that hits some red bars and the red bars move away and I am like cool but it is still really lame when all of a sudden the blue bars turn into these little blue dots and start moving away and the red bars follow with more lines and smaller arrows of their own and some of the blue dots go away and the red dudes are happy and the blue dudes are sweating when these other blue bars come from the side from who knows where and make another big blue arrow that hits those red bars in the side and then there are red dots all over and it is kind of cool looking with all the dots and the big arrow and blue bars keep moving and hit some more red bars and stop and there are more little lines and some small arrows mostly making u-turns that is illegal in this state dude and then more blue and red dots appear and all the bars and dots move away from each other and there are no more lines or arrows or anything and some of the dots even turn back into little bars whats up with that and I am bored out of my gourd so I get some chips and when I get back all the dudes are gone so I go home what a lame night.

I hope you enjoyed this riveting description and I hope the technical jargon was not overly dense.

It was a slam of sorts, not against Blake but more against the sad state higher education these days. Did you know that many history graduates no nothing of military history even though it is, admittedly, a constant theme throughout human history? If war is even mentioned it is always as a backdrop to more important events that are more deserving of study. My kids history books back when they were in K-12 and the ACW was covered devoted on average two pages to the military aspects and the rest to slavery, Frederick Douglass, The Emancipation Proclamation, and Abolition. These topics are well worth discussion but let us face it, they are not the whole of the conflict!

I also thought to illustrate how a totally disinterested observer may view our fascination with the arcana of military history. Lets face it, how many 'outsiders' would have the faintest idea of what is happening on a map of an actually battle? It would be just blocks and lines and dots and arrows! LOL!

Ah,

This sounds like my Wife and her friends.

"So, what is Kevin doing right now?" says my wife's friend.

"Oh, he is playing his stupid Block Game again" says my wife.
