Fellow Club Members,

It is time for us to donate in order to maintain this forum and the hosting of several club web pages at the ACWGC, CCC, NWC . At the top of the forum to the right of the logo you will see a 'Donate' button. We need 140$ or so for 2013. If you can help please do so. It will be greatly appreciated.

Every bit helps.

I will let you know how it is going as I receive the info.

Appears to be working normally for me. I see state and there is a drop down to select one.

Perhaps you need to set cookies on or security settings to allow.

Anyone else have problems?

I planned to pay the entire thing in Confederate Money.

Shockingly the drop down list of available nations does not include "Confederate States of America."

How this oversight could occur is beyond me. There I was with $140 Confederate dollars and egg on my face.

I have already written Paypal a strongly worded letter of protest. In the meantime I pitched my emergency Yankee money into the collective bucket but it was not nearly the amount I had in Confederate currency. But it will have to do.

Someone wake up Neal. He will be shocked to hear my wallet was opened! I had to get three witnesses to confirm my identity when I went to the bank to actually withdraw money. Apple Stocks dropped 10% today as a result of the panic that ensued on Wall Street.

Sir,
I donated $100 through PayPal last year using the button at the top. Was it received? Never got a confirmation or thank you for the donation (not that it was needed but would have been good to confirm the money was received as intended). Also, I was thinking it might increase donations and recognition of donors if there were a donor medal/ribbon established and admin pts awarded for donations/ ribbons good for set increment of year/months(s) to be determined by board or for each year the same level reached a donor gets a device or a stipe on the ribbon. Maybe something like

Bronze Ribbon (someone artistic would design)-- $25 Dollars
Silver Ribbon-- $50 Dollars
Gold Ribbon--$100 Dollars

Just a thought....

Pierre,

I will donate a little next month. It won't be much, but hopefully it will help.

You have to be careful about awarding ribbons, etc for donations. There are many ways that money and hours are spent on this club by members and most never ask for donations. I'm not saying that as a vote against donations for this site as I'm pretty sure that Pierre absorbed the costs from his own pocket for over a decade before he finally reached the point to where a little financial assistance wouldn't be a bad thing. I can relate to it as the Link Express cost me about $900 out of my own pocket over a 12 year period (probably chicken feed to what this site has cost over 12 years and what others have donated of their money for servers, other web sites, software, etc). However, the whole subject can become a Pandora's Box. Where do you draw the line as one site is recognized as donation worthy but another is not, or someone tries to expand club donations to include monetary payment for work performed in lieu of money spent, and there is always the possibility of a scam. When it comes to money, it would probably be best left to personal preference in lieu of club encouragement.

I thank everyone for their donations so far. For your information any amount not used this year will be used for the next. That is one reason why it is only 140$ this year.

The Wargame.ch server is used for many of the primary club functions. This forum and many club websites.

I would suggest for any personal club web sites that are paying money to use the wargame.ch server. There is a lot of room available. You can have an FTP access with a username and password for your site. If you are worried about all eggs in one basket kind of thing you must remember that the wargame.ch is just storage. You should have copies of your website on your PC. I have copies for all the club websites and they could be easily moved to another server. Even if wargame.ch disappeared for whatever reason, it would on be a matter of a little time to move to another server with no loss of historical data or websites.

How many websites have been loss over the last 15 years due to club members leaving and their Websites disappearing? When it happens not only do others have to start form scratch but the valuable club historical information has also been lost. If they would have been on the wargame.ch server or club server if you will, they would not have been lost. The site could just be continued by another individual There would no lost of the web site and the valuable information it has. How many times has this happened in the last 15 years? Many times valuable historical club information has been lost with individuals moving on.

You could relieve any cost you have to support your websites by moving to the wargame.ch server. You can have your own username and password to your files on the server. Even email addresses could be setup. Only makes sense to me. The club is supporting one server why not use it to reduce your costs.

If you want to reduce your personal costs with your web sites then send me a note and the ACWGC wargame.ch should be able to accommodate.

I am sure everyone in the club thanks those who volunteer their time and money to make this the best club on the internet by far.
