I'm sure everyone has experienced running out of artillery ammo :( but I noticed that when this happens, even new arty units that arrive on the field have zero ammo. This can't be right because they should have full caissons.

I believe they do arrive with ammo or at least I seem to remember it that way. It's hard to verify unless someone has a game going that is near out of ammo and still has reinforcements. Any chance that they arrived with ammo but your other guns used it up on defensive fire before you had a chance to check?

Hooker's grand central division has arrived with all its arty and they have zero rounds. The arty is in the arrival hex

I can't think of a scenario where Hooker's Center Grand Division comes on as a reinforcement, but try moving the artillery off the entry square. If that don't work, check the parameter data and see how much ammo is supposed to enter with each reinforcing gun. Maybe it is zero.

The Yanks ran out of artillery ammo?

If that's the case, the CSA is probably using spades and picks for weapons

Rebel artillery isn't all that effective any way. Yelling "Boom!!" and throwing a rock gets about the same results.

Its Fredericksburg Nov.19th meeting engagement (Chancellorsville 002). Moving the arty doesn't change things. I have two full Corps arriving without arty ammo. Parameter data only shows arty resupply value. I don't get any designer notes. This is a mistake I'm sure.

Well, another interesting anomaly is if you look in the editor, the ammo level is 1500 for the Yanks and 1000 for the Rebs, but when you start the game, it only gives 1220 for the Yanks and 673 for the Rebs.

I think it is time to refer this to HPSSIMS tech support.

Starting the scenario and getting to turn 2, I notice, as expected, the Reb ammo supply increases when Pelham's arty units enter the map. Working as Designed, it seems.

General Blake <salute>

Thank you for your vote! I thought the "digging for victory" and yelling "boom" while throwing rocks comments ranked up there as well.

What next, complaining the CSA is carrying arms?

Highest regards,

Many fine quips here. I am sorry I joined the thread so late!

Reb guns do seem less effective though than Yank guns. But given that Yank guns all seem to have a range of 21 it only makes sense they can bombard us more effectively at a range of over 10. I will hardly even waste my ammo firing at anything farther than 7 hexes.

Meanwhile my Yank opponent is hitting me from Pittsburgh.

Those 1000lb Parrot guns based in Pittsburgh are dang pesky and the yanks seem to get them in every battle :(

I can't find a scenario in the list by either name. Can you give the full name from the scenario selection list that you used?
