Post subject:  1812 VS 1776-HOW DIFFERENT?

Is the game sufficiently different to warrant its purchase?

Is there really that much of a change in tactics and quality of forces?

Thanks for your honest replies.

Patch 1.03 for 1776 makes the two sister games into twins. They do everything alike.

As for differences, it is 40+ years later in 1812, so no French. Uniforms are Napoleonic which leads me to the only REAL difference in common stuff, the artwork in 1812 is 2000% better!! :)

Some say it is only eye candy, but to me if a game doesn't look right, its not right. If it looks right then some of the engine restrictions can be accomodated.

If you like to dabble in Napoleonic Drill & Ceremony, but still fight with Indians in the back woods, then 1812 is worth the money.

If you only like AWI, the patch will get you up to speed, but I still would buy '12 to see the pretty pictures :)

(guess I shouldn't discourage sales should I, hehehe)

Boy where is the spell checker when you need it?

Asking the other way round, if I have 1812, is there a reason why I should buy 1776?

An easier anwer. If you are interested in playing any of the battles from the American Revolution, yes.

The '76 maps won't work in the '12 game and vice-a-versa.

'76 has many more battles at this scale and is very enjoyable.

I think the 2 games are somewhat unique, although the upgrades make the game play similar. If you like either of the games, you will like the other. A big difference is the American Army in 1812 has a lot of Regular Army, as opposed to militia in 1776.

I think they are different enough to have both games.

Another reason I can think of is, more maps. Either game gives you an additional 25 maps to play on. Plus I am getting ready to relase 2 more big maps for 1812.
