All, We are putting the finishing touches on the expansion package now...expect to see it sometime next week on the HPS site:

--------------------------------------------

1812 Expansion Package - by Al Amos & Rich Hamilton

A variety of items are included in this package. The first and foremost being a large campaign set on the Niagara frontier during 1814. This is a comprehensive work, which allows players to play up to 6 battles in a campaign, with losses carrying over.

There are 59 new scenarios included. 56 that go with the campaign, 1 that is a large stand alone battle (152 turns), 1 put together by Terry Lubka covering Montreal and finally a "review" scenario which will allow you to view all the available forces in the new 1814 OOB. Also included are 2 new large random maps. These do not represent any specific areas, but allow for some fertile ground for scenario designers. Also, with the new sub-map feature, many new maps can be created from these.

If you have questions or comments about this package please feel free to contact us at: 1812exp@hist-sdc.com

All,

The 1812 Expansion Package is now available for download from my Scenario Design Center, located at http://www.hist-sdc.com/

Just follow the link on the main page.

HPS has been having some technical difficulties with their site, but it should be available there also before too long.

Regards,

Rich & Al

All,

I have posted the Cavalry.oob file as a seperate download on the page, so you don't have to download the whole thing again.

Also, I'm having trouble with my FTP server, so the whole package is temporarily unavailable. As soon as I get it sucessfully uploaded I'll post here again.

Thanks for your patience.

Rich - will get the patch tonite and try it out. Looking forward to seeing the new campaign. Not that I was ever able to get a Brit to play me in a 1812 campaign in the club yet it is just that I never challenged anyone. Havent looked over the stock game campaign(s).

Bill,

I think you'll like the expansion package campign much better than the 4 that come with the game. Al really outdid himself with it. Many options, potential for up to 6 battles, and losses that carry over where appropriate. Very good.

I personally like the new maps too...especially Random1 which gives lots of romm to maneuver and various types of terrain.

Hope you like it.

Rich

Currently playing the first scenario of the campaign against Glyn Hargreaves.

Must have made a poor campaign choice because I am being easily overwhelmed at the fort on Erie. British naval fire is muderous. However, militia reinforcements have arrived to stir up trouble.

Great stuff guys! I've only managed to peruse the info so far.

I did find this:

BGen A. Macomb 3rd Bgd Right Division, Army of Niagra has a graphic for a leadership quality. I see an ASCII square instead of a letter.

Where are the Peninsula veterans? Typically, the British structure follows a natural progression. D for militia, C for fencibles and foot regiments with these having A and B Grenadier and Light companies. But there is nothing that I could see thus far that indicated that the veterans were making their way to North America.

The Galleys, are they what was called 'gunboats'. I was a little disappointed that there were no gunboats at Crysler's farm. True, they weren't overly effective, but like rocket batteries, they were there and they were firing.

It seems you've given the leadership edge to the Americans. Is this true or just my perception?

Again, great effort guys.

Hi Rob,

On the gun boats issue, I had created the OOB and scenario for Crysler's Farm before that feature was added into the engine, so in all honesty, I just never got back to redoing the OOB and scenario!

On the Peninsula veterans...they made it over to the US, but they didn't bring their quality perse with them. Their effectiveness dropped when they hit this continent. Wellington was no longer around to inforce the same disipline thay had in Spain, and the lack of good leadership and organization in the US had a demoralizing effect on them. According to what I have read they did not perform nearly as well as they had just a few short months early against the French.

And on leadership...no, I don't think so. Both sides have pretty bad leaders. I can't speak for the 1814 OOB, as Al put that together, but in the main game it was about even, or possibly slightly favoring the British/Canadian forces.

Regards,

Rich
