Salutations,

Here is a thesis from Major Edward Murphy on Napoleon's Polish Campaign where he poses the following in his abstract: "Napoleon and his Grand Army were by the winter of 1806, the stuff of legend. How did this Russian Army of notable inferior weapons, tactics, organization and leadership stave off defeat and almost achieve victory?"

Interesting read with maps and organization. In pdf format at just over 100 pages from the US Army Command and General Staff College, for public release. Let me know if I am retreading articles already posted.

Very good article!
Readers here should realize what a few others have also found out, that the French army of 1805-1806 up to the Winter campaign was of such superiority that the crushing victories of 1805-1806 can be easy explained.

What is noted on page 84 "The high rate of casualties suffered by both his officers and veterans changed the composition of the Grand Army forever" is a very simple but important conclusion, it means that the French army should differ clearly from what we see in the Summer of 1807 and later stages of the Napoleonic Wars. And that is something I still miss in both Campaign Austerlitz & Campaign Jena-Auerstedt, were the later has at least French regimental commanders that help to differ the LGA from the Prussians.
