A friend posted this on FB and I thought it might be of interest to the club.

From the article: The one-legged skeleton of Charles-Étienne Gudin was found in a park under the foundations of a dance floor. His identity was confirmed by DNA.
Gudin, aged 44, was hit by a cannonball near the city of Smolensk during the French invasion of Russia in 1812.
He had to have his leg amputated and died of gangrene three days later. His heart was taken back to France to be buried.

Gudin was an outstanding General. I'm happy they've returned him to France, where he heroically belongs.

Vive l'emperor...

Some would say that Gudin was one of those select few French generals that may have eventually been awarded a Marshal's baton if the Empire stayed alive! Always a big fan of Gudin.
