Good day gentlemen,
the NWC already hosts some very fine graphic mods so should we also add a forum section where these mods and other mods can be discussed? Besides discussion it could also be used to request mods.
A big benefit I see is to have a place where the moders can go to, that would maybe make them join the club, it's always good to have the persons working on the games on board instead of somewhere out in the WWW.

I suggest a new section because I don't think threads for mods are something for the main forum(Rhine Tavern) as they are very special & specific, especially when we talk about mods besides graphics that toy around with in-game values and other stuff like H&R for example.
Such threads also wouldn't fit into the feedback section as that place is just for posting bugs & errors to improve the stock games and stock scenarios.

This is a valid question. Someone from the club leadership should answer whether this will happen.

I am neither for nor against it. Just bumping it up to the top.

The Rhine Tavern is the BEST place to have discussions on all subjects concerning the club and games. Most members that check into the forums do so in this forum.

If we start specializing forums, we lose readers of general topics and only those interested in that specialized forum would visit it.

Using the Rhine Tavern for almost all topics reaches most members that visit here.

FWIW: There were 379 discussions regarding MODS since 2005, in this Forum.

I can concur on what Ernie is saying. If the club forums get too "compartmentalized" you end up with many of them rarely ever being read.

We have a Book forum but I wonder how many regular members wander down to read it.

Slitherine has a way of doing this with their games ... but that is a company forum and not a club.

They have an opponents wanted forum section ... Q&As .... etc.

The problem is is that you have to keep on checking those forums all the time.

On the other hand we really must password protect the Allied officers forum or else the French officers would drink all of the schnapps and brandy! :frenchlol:

I can't agree that we loose readers, those interested in the main forum will still look into it and read what they want to read.
And those interested in mods will have a section where not only the discussion is concentrated and by that much easier accessible
but where we can easily cross reference as points can be interchangeable with mods of other games.
I must point to the uniforms of this era and their important role. I had a discussion on the wargamer forum with Philip Devine regarding some uniforms and it's a real shame that the wargamer forum was reset and that thread is gone now.
So a mod section would not only be there for mods but also for the historical background regarding uniforms and the graphic mods that try to depict them.

Mods are simply not a general topic that simply covers the "club and games". I doubt we loose readers but think we would gain readers as they would find a new home in such a section.

379 doesn't seem much but I would prefer 379 threads in such a new section instead of spread over the board, maybe even spread to the specific army forums that are unaccessible for the other side.
There is a reason we have a specific page that collects the mods we host, an accompanying forum section would just be a logical step.

I agree that we shouldn't make sub sections for every incidentals but mods are not that, they can rank even above patches if the mod corrects error or other problems of a game that a patch didn't solve, my little fix for Austerlitz is just an example.
